Overview: Yoru has actually gotten used to living like a human alongside Kaori. It is only whenever he has to feed off a human's life energy that he remembered who he was and who he used to be. He was once Bishop of the Checkmate 4 who made sure Fangires lived according to their laws and customs. If often horrifies to think that he was once punished any fangire that tried to live like a human, when he is doing the same thing currently... But it's all for Kaori's sake. All to rebuild the Checkmate 4 with him as Bishop once again and her as his King.

Bishop has lived for so many years, he has count of how many exactly. He doesn't remember his earliest years of life nor does he care to remember. He's seen kings made and helped kings fall. He's watched humans go to war over and over and over again. He's them persecuted their own kind as he persecuted his. Any fangire that disobeyed the laws of their proud race and tried to co-mingle with humans was met with his justice.

He spent some time in England near the end of the 18th century. He liked to change his pattern of victims every decade or so and this time he had taken a liking to prostitutes. After five, he was forced to stop. He had drawn too much attention to himself. The newspaper had started calling him Jack..

Some time later he returned to his homeland of Japan where he met the person that would change his life forever. She was a young Fangire and was chosen to be King's new bride - the next Queen. The old queen had vanished in the night two years back and no one had seen her since. She was either dead or living amongst the humans. Either way she had betrayed her race and would be facing Bishop's justice soon enough... 

Though Fangires lived in a world of darkness, she was his sun. His life revolved around hers. He could not bear to be away from her from too long. For the first time in his long, long life he was truly happy...until that fateful day. A sect of traitorous Fangires calling themselves The Friends of Man snuck into the King's traditional Japanese-style castle (with help on the inside no doubt) and murdered the King while he slept before setting fire to the place. Rook was killed in the ensuing chaos, but Bishop managed to survive. He searched for beloved Queen in the wreckage, but alas she was nowhere to be seen...

Bishop traveled the world on his own for the next six months. It was during this time he rescued a member of the Kivat race, loyal servants to the Fangires, from a human lab. They had been experimenting on him and had successfully created a Kivat of their own. Bishop slaughtered the human scientists and kept the two Kivats for himself. In the past, he would have discarded such an abomination of human science, but he was weak and all alone. He had no choice, but to continue on.  

As soon as he had given up all hope of seeing his precious Queen again, there she was, but she was different. She had no memories of her past and was actually now a human.. Bishop now some sort of powerful magic was at work and planned to seek out every last mage and force them to remove the seal on her back. For now he has to be content with living as human undertaker working and living in a large, spooky broken down mansion in the center of a graveyard with the two Kivats and the young girl that wanted nothing more than to be a detective.
