"I was depressed. Magic tricks cheer me up and I use flowers in some of them. I thought that even if I couldn't figure out where to sleep or find work I'd at least feel a little better if I replenished my flower stock." Well magic tricks did cheer him up. He hadn't been depressed but he couldn't very well tell her he'd come there intending to slay a Horror. No, she'd forgotten all of that.
He'd have to tell her again at some point, at least before he killed her but that could wait. And it would be easier if she saw a Horror for herself. He didn't doubt that she would. With her tainted blood it would be impossible to avoid them.

"Well, I'm glad you chose this shop then," she said, "It's always nice to be able to help someone. I'm glad I've been able to give you help. I don't know how well it would have worked for you if you went somewhere else."

"Thank you, Rui-chan. That's really quite kind. Most people would probably be more annoyed with this turn of events." He chuckled. "Well, I suppose most people wouldn't have trusted me enough to invite me to stay in the first place. I'll work hard to try and deserve that faith of yours."

"Well, you need somewhere to go, you were kind to me, and...I have space I should fill," she said, "It all works out."

"I suppose it does," he responded. Jun wouldn't consider what he'd done kind. He was just trying to be decent after he had ruined everything. If she knew what had really happened she'd hate him. "I've been living by myself for a while so I know how to cook. Maybe I can help repay your kindness by making dinner."

"Feel free," she said, "I'm looking forward to it."

He laughed. "Just don't get too excited about it! I'm a decent enough cook but don't expect a five course meal!" He didn't particularly like cooking. He'd picked it up as a matter of necessity. He had enough obligations with his Makai Knight responsibilities. And then cooking just cut into his magic time.
On his own he typically microwaved food or made something really quick and easy. That wouldn't be appropriate now, though. He'd try to make something really nice as an apology to Rui-chan. Of course she wouldn't remember why he should be apologetic and food definitely couldn't fix what he had destroyed but he'd try to be as nice as possible. He'd at least try to make sure her last 100 days were happy. He owed her that much.

"I don't, don't worry," she assured him. She didn't know what to expect from him, really. It could go either way, but it was the sentiment that mattered, not the meal itself.

"What kind of things do you like to eat?" he asked her. He had no idea what her taste was like.

"Pretty much anything," she said, "I don't have any particular tastes."

'Well that was helpful,' he thought sarcastically. Okay...So what now? He wanted to at least try and make something she liked. "Well, I guess I'll see what supplies I have to work with it and take it from there," he said hesitantly. Her groceries should give him some clue as to her tastes.

"That would be best," she said, "I'll pretty much eat anything, though," she explained.

Jun grinned. "Wonderful! I like working with low standards!" Set the bar low and anything seemed impressive.

She stopped, "Low standards?" she questioned, irate.

Jun looked at her confused. He didn't understand her tone. "Yes, if people expect the world from you it's really hard for you to impress them or even satisfy them. But if people just expect you to...I don't know...be a normal human being you actually have a chance to make them...proud? happy? If people actually consider the possibility that it's reasonable for you to make mistakes things go better."
Jun seriously doubted he'd ever made his father proud. He wasn't dedicated and he definitely wasn't perfect. His dad probably just considered his performance adequate. A Makai Knight was supposed to be something super human, beyond human. His father hadn't wanted a human, something fallible. He wanted something superb, a knight.
