"It still sounds like you're saying I have low standards, which is insulting," she told him.

"Oh!" he said, comprehension dawning. "It was meant to be a compliment. I only meant that you didn't seem like you'd get angry if my cooking was less than perfect. My apologies."

She nodded, "Oh, ok, sorry," she said.

"No, it's fine," he said, relaxed. "I just need to remember that not everyone's as a rigid as my dad was."

"I'm definitely not," she said, "I wouldn't think, anyway."

He laughed. "Trust me, you're not!" he assured her. "Dad just kind of beat this mentality of perfection into me. He expected only the best. Anything less was inexcusable. I was relieved to see that you didn't expect the same things. So I tried to compliment you." He laughed again. "But well apparently I messed that up!"

"Oh, no, it's fine," she smiled, "I get it now, and it's fine."

So his people skills could still use some work, huh? Well he supposed he didn't get that much time to socialize. At least he'd cleared the matter up. Typically if you kept a cool head and kept talking you could work things out at some point. Usually.
Well with him tripping over his words, Rui-chan probably thought he was the worst cook ever. Well...Maybe that wasn't such a bad thing. It would be easier not to disappoint her that way he supposed.
"Can you least tell me if you prefer spicy foods or sweet foods?" he asked with a smile, pleased she wasn't upset with him. He still had no clue as to what he was actually going to cook. And he hadn't cooked anything that had taken more than ten minutes in...who knew how long.

"I'd prefer sweet," she said, "Both are good, but I think something sweet would be better for today."

Jun nodded his head cheerfully, glad he had some sort of plan now. "I'll at least make sure to making something sweet for dessert," he promised her. He at least had slightly more experience with sweets. He'd made them for his younger sister on occasion. She'd been particularly fond of pudding.

"Dessert?" she asked with a smile, "You're spoiling me."

He beamed. Oh he liked her. She was pleased with something as simple as making dessert. She was really too nice.
"Consider it a celebration for my moving in. It's a special occasion." Normal people did stuff like that, right? They had a party or something of the like when people moved.

"I guess it is," she said, "You buying a dozen roses from me wasn't, though?" She was joking, she got his money that way, and that she was probably going to see more tricks.

"Well it is true I wanted to try and help the little bit I could but I really did need some fresh flowers," he replied, eyes sparkling as he thought about how to best put them to use.
As they continued to walk he extracted his typical black magic hat from his bag and a few roses. He held the hat out in front of Rui-chan and dropped one rose in at a time under her careful gaze. He snapped his fingers and when she inspected the hat again it was empty. He snapped his fingers again and the roses appeared wound together in a wreath on top of Rui-chan's head.

She gently removed the wreath from her head and looked at Jun, "How did you do that?" she asked him, "I mean really...that's like real magic!"
