"Maybe another time," he said, "Sometime I will explain it, though."

"I like puzzles," Charlotte said cheerfully. "I'll do my best to figure it out before you have to explain it."
"You could have told me it was what you said and not the expression though! Now I just feel silly trying to explain what I don't get about it!" The mouth was coming better but it still needed some work.

"Don't worry about it," he told her, still painting behind her, "How's that coming along?"

"I think I've almost got it but still...don't expect anything amazing. I'm really not that good."
She sighed. "Honestly, I feel like I shouldn't even be attempting Hermes. My portrayal isn't going to be anywhere near what it should be. It's...Never mind. You probably think it's silly I'm trying this hard anyway." Maybe she was being silly. But she'd been interested in mythology from a young age and Hermes had caught her fancy quite early on. So it was important to her.

"No, I understand it," he told her, "Just do your best, and I won't judge."

"But if you don't judge how will I improve? It's okay. I understand that...I have a lot I need to work on. Just don't expect it to be at your level or anything." She continued to erase some lines, deepen some, and make others more narrow. She was almost there.

"I see a difference between judging, and guiding," he told her, "I'll guide you."

"Thanks for helping. If you're interested I can teach you Greek, Hebrew, Egyptian hieroglyphs, or Sanskrit." He probably wouldn't be interested. Learning another language was a lot of work.

"We'll see, but at least I know I can call you for translations," he told her.

She laughed. "Dead languages only. I should have said Ancient Greek." She put the finishing touches on her drawing.
"Okay...That's about as good as its going to get," she said fairly satisfied. For her she'd done quite well. Yes the proportions could be better. And it definitely wasn't anything a master artist would be proud of but she thought her point came across well enough. She supposed she'd basically captured Hermes essence. She wished she had done better but this was the best she could do for now.

He covered his easel and walked up to hers, taking a look, "It's...really not too bad for your skill level...I guess...," he didn't quite know what to tell her, if he should be honest, or if he should be a bit more kind to her and tell her it wasn't as bad.

She touched Jack's shoulder lightly and laughed. "Jack, it's terrible. I know that. Just read me the artistic damage report and tell me how I can make it better. It's okay. I know I'm awful."
"I mean...Maybe it's completely a lost cause but...I can probably at least make it slightly less lost?"

"Well...," he looked at it, "Let me get back to you on that one..." He didn't want to get into all of that right now, he'd rather take some time to figure out a way to teach her first.

She laughed. "I should probably just burn this." Yup. Her canvas was always kept blank for good reason.
"So do I get to see your much more impressive work?" she asked brightly.

"That?" he asked, gesturing to what he had been doing, "No, but I can show you other works."
