"I'm sorry to hear that," he told her. Sure, he hadn't had his stolen, but he was forward enough and outgoing enough to counter that.

She shrugged. "I don't know if it's something to be sorry about. It's just nothing I've ever experienced. It's probably not all it's cracked up to be anyway."
When people made a fuss trying to convince you something was great that usually meant it wasn't that exciting. Otherwise why would they need to work so hard to try and convince you that it was impressive? It would just be amazing.

"Hopefully you'll get it someday. It's apparently wonderful."

"Likewise. But is it really wonderful? I feel like if it was so great people wouldn't have to constantly tell you how amazing it was. People would just know. And people in love can kind of act insane at times."

"But imagine how it would feel to be loved," he told her, "To always have someone there for you, to always be there for someone else."

"I don't think my imagination is that good." Her own parents had never been there for her. The people she had considered friends had just used her for her parents' stuff. Yeah..It was kind of hard for her to picture someone constantly supporting her. She wasn't sure if was harder for her to imagine someone supporting her or her taking care of someone. She wasn't really close to anyone.

He smiled, "Well, someday I hope you find that," he told her, "I hope someone can get through to you."

"I suppose it's possible," she said doubtfully. She'd kind of given up on the whole trusting people thing when she was like eight so it was really unlikely though.
"I know my problem. Or at least I know what people tell me my problem is. The whole trusting people thing. But what about you? You don't seem like you have that issue. So why hasn't anyone been able to steal your heart?"

He shrugged, "I guess because I never stay in one place," he told her, "If I meet someone as I travel, I always have to leave in the end. That's my problem."

She nodded. "Yeah, that's kind of the deal with being a Treasure Hunter. But I'd definitely pick being a Treasure Hunter over the alternative. It must be so boring to just stay in one place."

"Maybe," he said, "But travel can get old too, eventually."

"Is it already getting old for you?" she asked. "Are you thinking about quitting and settling down somewhere?"

He shook his head, "Of course not," he said, "There are just times I'd rather come home than go around the world."

"What makes a building a home?" she asked him. People seemed to place all this emphasis on a concept of 'home'. Home wasn't just a place to sleep and eat but some sort of desirable and special setting.
Charlotte really didn't get that. She had chosen her apartment because the location was convenient and it wasn't ridiculously expensive. It wasn't situated in a high crime area and it was comfortable enough. But it wasn't like she was rushing to get home. Researching at home wasn't anymore comfortable or relaxing than doing it at a library. The only special aspect of her apartment was the blank canvas. But that was just as likely to depress her as bring her joy.

"Love," he told her, "I love my view, I love the inspiration I get from this place, and how it relates to my work. Ok, I guess those aren't great reasons, but those are mine."
