He nodded, going off into the other room. He didn't care about her being there.

And so the waiting game continued. At least Kiriha didn't seem to be actively avoiding her now.
She tried not to look at her bento as she warded off hunger, instead focusing her thoughts on how she could best help Kiriha. There was definitely hope for him if he was so worried about Hiro.

His pager went off after a few hours. He got out of bed and hurried, paying her no heed. He needed to see to his friend.

She followed after Kiriha, keeping her distance. She'd be able to tell how Hiro was doing based on Kiriha's expression when he left the room. She hoped Hiro was okay.

On his way to see Hiro, his pager went off. He slowed and looked at it. It was about Hiro.. He ran as fast as he could, beating almost everyone else.
"What's wrong with him?" Kiriha questioned.
"He's critical," one of the older doctors told him, "There was something in the kidney that we didn't catch. An autopsy is being performed on the donor now."
Kiriha pushed himself to Hiro's side, but others pulled him away. He wasn't being of any help where he was. He watched, wanting to go to Hiro's side as he watched the man flatline.
"No!" Kiriha screamed. They tried to use the defibrillator him, but it didn't work. They couldn't start his heart again. Kiriha was pulled from the room, forced to watch through the window as they tried to unsuccessfully save his friend.

Sayuri had seen the way Kiriha had run to Hiro's room. She feared the worst. Her fears seemed to be verified when Kiriha was forced outside.
She had never seen Kiriha look so upset. She kept her distance, figuring he needed space. Hopefully everything would work out in the end; but, she was doubtful. Things definitely didn't look good.

They had stopped trying. Kiriha pushed his way back in as others ran out. He grabbed the defib unit again and tried again. He wanted to do this himself; he wanted to try. Maybe those few tries weren't enough, maybe a few more would do it.
"Come on..." Nothing. "Come on..." Nothing.
"Come on!" he shouted. Nothing. He slammed the cart with the defib unit on aside, "God, god, god!" he shouted, finally giving up. He stormed out, walking past everyone else who was coming in, or moving down the hall.

When KIriha stormed out it was obvious Hiro was dead. How terrible it must be for him to lose a dear friend like that!
She hurried after him, saying nothing. She really didn't think there was a good thing to say in this situation; but, she didn't want to leave him alone. He looked....really really upset.

"I always promised him that he would be better," Kiriha muttered, aware of her following him. "He had...he had time," his voice cracked a little, "But...but now...I promised I would look after him. I knew that this was his chance...he knew it to...but..."

Sayuri listened attentively as he spoke. Honestly, she was quite shocked. She hadn't thought he would say anything to her. It pained her to see him like this, hear him like this. This wasn't exactly what she had meant when she had told him to be kinder.
"It's not your fault, Kiriha. It was his time. I'm sure Hiro didn't blame you. He was your friend. He knew you, understood you. I'm sure he knew you and the hospital did everything you could."

Yuki Joji came down the hall, "Kiriha! We need you! Come on!"
Kiriha stood there, not paying him any attention.
"Kiriha!"
"I'm done," he said, shaking his head. He just walked on, heading for the staircase.

Sayuri continued to follow after Kiriha. She briefly wondered if she should try and convince him to do his job; but, she thought better of it. His head wasn't in the right place. He'd likely botch whatever work he was given in this state. He needed time to grieve.
She wished she had a useful quote to say at this time. But somehow she didn't think he'd appreciate the one about being beyond joy or grief. And he probably wouldn't really enjoy a Japanese death poem either.
No, in cases like this it was probably just best to stay by his side. He would speak when he was ready and it might make him feel slightly better to know that someone else was there.

He walked out the front door and didn't look back. He grabbed his face with one hand, feeling his tears. He rubbed his eyes and kept going, not sure where. He just kept walking.

Sayuri continued to follow Kiriha and it did not escape her notice that he was crying. This was a delicate situation indeed. What was the best way to handle this?
"Do you want to talk about it?" she asked gently. "Do you want to go some place where you can remember him?" Often times when someone died those close to the person would go somewhere the deceased had spent a lot of time and tell stories about him.

"Leave me alone," he told her, his voice far too even to be probably remotely healthy for him.
