"Whatever you'd do, I guarantee I've had worse," she said, unconcerned.
"You shouldn't be so obsessed with keeping your feelings locked in side. Your best friend just died, for crying out loud! It's okay to cry or shout or scream. I'm sure Hiro would want you to grieve properly! If he was a real friend he wouldn't want you to pretend like you were okay!"

"He wasn't my best friend," he muttered, turning away from her.

"Do you have a best friend?" she asked him.

What a strange question to ask at a time like this. He didn't answer.

"You don't, do you?" she pressed him. Well they were alike in that way then.

He just walked away again. She had to stop following him.

She continued to follow him. "I don't have a best friend either. Or really any friends." There was no pity or regret in her voice. She stated it like a fact.

He finally turned again, "I don't care about you, or that you don't have any friends. Just leave me alone and let me grieve!" he shouted.

"I never did say you cared about me," she responded calmly. Why should he? His spirit was so twisted. He had enough to worry about simply mending it. But she didn't think he had the will or desire to take care of it on his own. That's why she was here.
"I want to keep you company. After you lose someone precious, it's important that you aren't alone. See, even if you don't care about me, I care about you."

He shook his head, "There is only one use you can be to me," he told her.

"And that is?" she pressed him, having no idea what he was going to say. She'd assumed he'd find her completely useless.

"A distraction," he said, grabbing her around the waist and pulling her up to him, hungrily putting his mouth on hers, just trying to lock out his emotions and feel something - anything - good.

Okay...Sayuri definitely hadn't seen that one coming. At first she was too stunned to respond. This was an emotional response which she supposed was good? But was this a healthy response to grief?! She honestly had no idea.
When her own mother had died she'd barely mourned. She'd convinced herself she was satisfied that her mother died gloriously in battle. And she kept chanting the mantra about being beyond joy or grief.
In the end she wanted to help Kiriha and thought maybe this was the way. She returned his kiss and was surprised and a bit disturbed about just how good it felt.

He broke off after a while, and then went back in for a bit more before stopping again. He shook his head, "You're just a distraction, that meant nothing," he told her, quickening his pace from before and leaving her.

Her head was whirling but she chased after him. She was still worried about Kiriha and Sayuri wasn't quite sure what she herself was feeling.
"That's what you told me to begin with," she reminded him. Her voice was less even then she would have liked. Her spirit wasn't in its proper place. What was that again? How did she settle it?
