"You're not content with how you are now," she said confidently. She knew because she herself was not content. It was easy to recognize that same trait in others.
"And is that you don't want to be happy or you feel you do not deserve to be happy?" she asked him.

"Contention is my happiness," he told her, "I go on and live my life day after day, saving lives, doing my job. It's not happiness, but it's the closest I can get."

"No, it's the closest you think you can get because you haven't actually tried. And contention can't be your happiness because you're not content. You're suffering even if you refuse to dwell on it."

"I've become a monster," he told her, "I don't need anything more."

Sayuri simply looked at him, stunned for a moment. "Is that what you think you are?!" she asked, horrified.
"No! I saw the way you fought! It was incredible! You might have some weird power inside you that you don't understand;but, that doesn't make you a monster! So what if you're stronger and faster?! You're putting it to good use! You're a warrior! There's nothing monstrous about that, about what you're doing, about who you are! You're a warrior and a doctor and a good brother! Not a monster!"

"Whatever I am, I'm not human," he said. He could have spoken more, but he had no desire to. He wanted this conversation done.

"Is that why you don't think you can die?" she asked. "Because you don't think you're human?" That was ridiculous. No matter what those monsters had done to him he was still a human being!

"I'm not human," he said, "I lost the right to call myself that when I became Kuuga."

"What about me?" she asked him. "Did I lose the right to call myself human when I became ShinkenPink? You're as human as me," she insisted.

"You use a suit. I become a monster."

"You just transform differently. You still transform. You're still human." She walked over and gently touched his shoulder. "You feel as human as anyone else."

He glared at her, shrugging her hand off, "You're looking for the good, for the things that could make this ok. It's not ok; I am a monster."

She met his gaze, unflinching.
"You're right that what was done was not okay. To alter you without consent is horrendous and unforgivable. But that's their crime. Not yours. The monsters were the ones who did this to you. But you're a warrior! You protect innocent people! You're the talented if somewhat arrogant Kiriha. As human as anyone."

He just turned and walked away, ignoring the bento he had set aside, "I have to get back to work," he muttered, leaving the break room.

Kiriha was more troubled than she had originally thought. How in the world could he believe he wasn't human? He could be rude and disrespectful; but, he wasn't by any means a monster.
The spirit was what was most important. No matter how much damage the body sustained so long as the spirit remained in tact a person could find contentment and happiness. But Kiriha's spirit was in a terrible state. She had to try and do something about it.
She collected the bento he had abandoned and quickly followed after him. "I'll be waiting for you when work ends with your bento," she promised. "Take good care of the patients and don't you dare try and ditch me! I will find you!"
She could use the rest of the time to ponder how to deal with him. She definitely needed a new battle plan. This was tricky.
