He just went right on, ignoring her. He went to see the first patient on his rounds, a man he had grown to quite like; a man named Hiro. The only problem was that in two or three months he would need a new kidney, but for now he was fine, at least.

Sayuri's original plan was to sit in the waiting room, making sure Kiriha couldn't leave without her notice. However, it was probably going to be a while before he finished; and, Sayuri could use advice from someone who knew him well. She poked around, hoping she could find Marilen again. She should have asked for the girl's phone number earlier.

Marilen had already left the building, but she was outside, waiting around out there so Kiriha wouldn't see she was still around.
Kiriha went to his other patients, but went back to Hiro whenever time permitted. He considered him a friend.

Sayuri couldn't find Marilen in the building. Figured. Her stomach growled, reminding her that she had yet to eat. But since she'd already gifted the bento to Kiriha she went to a vending machine and bought a snack.
She returned to the waiting room, munching on a chocolate bar, contemplating her next move. Kiriha was definitely cold and troublesome. It would be difficult to wear him down but she'd need to if she had any hopes of mending his twisted spirit.

Kiriha ended up going down to the waiting room after a few more trips. He passed off some files and stopped to talk for a few minutes to the receptionist.

Sayuri brightened when she saw Kiriha. Good! He was coming this way. She stood back as he talked to the receptionist. But there was no way she was letting him escape.

Before she got there, he was already heading back upstairs.

Sayuri hurriedly chased after him, up the stairs. She didn't mind running. If he was going to return to his rounds she'd wait him out; but, if he was going to try and leave the building she'd follow. SHE WAS GOING TO TALK TO HIM!

Kiriha's pager went off. He ran off, he had to help. There had been a car accident, and the patient was in critical condition. They didn't think he was going to survive, but they had to try. Kiriha wasn't a surgeon, so he really couldn't do anything, but he wanted to be there.

Sayuri heard Kiriha's pager go off and saw him change directions. She gave him space but continued to follow him. He was probably heading somewhere she wasn't allowed to go; but, she'd stay as close as she could. She wouldn't let him give her the slip later. She was determined.

He hurried along with the others who were going to try to help. The man was taken into surgery and Kiriha stayed back, knowing he couldn't stay and watch for long, he'd have to get back to work immediately.

Sayuri obviously wasn't allowed into the surgery but she briefly saw the guy they wheeled in and the grave faces of the doctors. It wasn't looking good for this poor person. He was probably going to die.
Sayuri shivered. She never wanted to be a doctor. She couldn't imagine working on terminal patients, watching them die right in front of her. She saw enough death with her warrior job. That hopeless look when people realized they weren't going to make it...She was disciplined but even she had nightmares about it occasionally. Death was natural and inevitable but it was far from pleasant to watch.

Kiriha left when he was paged elsewhere. He passed her by, focusing only on getting to where he needed to and dealing with the patient.

Sayuri continued to follow him through the halls, always waiting outside. She was worried that if she stayed in the waiting room he'd simply find another way to leave the building. No, it was probably best to stay as close as possible at all times so he couldn't give her the slip.

The patient had died, as expected. On the positive side, Hiro was going to be getting a new kidney from him. Kiriha went to get Hiro ready to go. He was going to be sad to see Hiro going sooner, but at least he would live.
