At times? Try most of the time. Killing sentient creatures. Trying to make heads or tails of gruesome visions. Pouring over the accursed crystal ball for hours. And then worrying about her father and Jun-kun. Yeah, she was spent. Of course if she'd gotten a bit more sleep she wouldn't be quite this uptight. What if this girl was just another person she couldn't save? What if she couldn't figure out where she was in time?
"No excuse not to be cheerful!" she said brightly, lazily stretching out her arms. She needed to get it together. She was being disturbingly honest. She needed to fix that.

"I guess," she said, "I'd know people who, in our position, wouldn't be able to be cheerful at all," she said, "They'd be wrecks, knowing how many lives were in their hands, and what would happen if they failed."

Wrecks? Was that what she was? Probably. But it was okay so long as she could hide it. "Living, breathing, and functioning," she whispered.

"Hm?" she asked.

Erika smiled mischievously. "It's a magic spell!" she said cheerfully. "No matter what the circumstances are, you can say you're fine if you're living, breathing, and functioning!"

"Ah," she nodded, "That makes sense. It's a nice trick."

"Load it in your arsenal Solo Sister. You might have need of it one day." Erika certainly did. She wasn't sure how she'd cope without it.

She nodded, "I very well might," she said, "Thanks. I'll remember it."

"People tell you it's okay to be sad. But you know it's okay not to express those feelings too. People shouldn't need to tell you what's okay. That's for you to decide!" she said with a chipper snap of her fingers.

"It is, but there's also social norms to try to adhere to," she said, "That sounds like what people say are ok and not ok."

"Yes, but you don't really have to be normal. You just have to appear to be normal," Erika pointed out. People don't ask questions about that cheerful girl. If you don't appear sad or depressed people don't ask questions.

She nodded, "Of course. You just have to put on a front."

She smiled sincerely and nodded her head. "You are my Solo Sister," she said appreciatively.

She just smiled and nodded.

"I'm glad you like my spell. I do hope it proves useful one day. But please if I ask you if you're okay and you're not say the spell out loud. I'll do the same," she promised. She felt that this girl could understand her at least a little bit. They both had to put up fronts and try to be strong. But maybe they could be a little honest with each other. It would probably do them both some good.
