"Oh, of course the fucking Artifact's in an abandoned asylum. Where else would it be, a pit full of hungry crocodiles?" Claudia muttered as she stood outside their destination. Robert J. Creeves Home for the Mentally Disturbed had been closed in the '50's due to a variety of abuses, and now stood as a desolate, yet relatively intact hulk on the hill behind her. She tapped her foot, waiting for Kakeru.

Kakeru walked up shortly after, scratching at his neck and yawning. "Not like an Artifact's gonna be in a shopping mall or a Starbucks. So quit griping and let's go get the damn thing." He cracked his knuckles, making sure he had easy access to his Dialer in case he needed it.

"Doesn't stop me from wishing it was." Claudia said, patting her butt pocket for a moment to make sure she had her own Dialer. Lightning struck in the distance. "Please, let's get a little more cliché, why don't we." Claudia muttered.

Kakeru chuckled, before walking over and kicking open the door. "How about I lead this time?"

"Yes, please do." Claudia said. "You seem to have already turned the door into toothpicks anyhow."

"More like mulch." He laughed, walking through the doorway and looking around.

They stopped into an entry hall, with the chairs in disarray and flickering lights illuminating the place spastically. "Who ya gonna call?" Claudia asked, pointing to what looked like the faint outline of a woman behind the receptionist's desk.

Kakeru turned towards the desk, seeing the woman, and sensing something rather off. "Curious that there'd be a person here."

"Look how faint it is. I'd say it's a ghost, probably caused by the Artifact." Claudia said. One of the doors swung open, and a translucent man dressed in a white doctor's coat walked out, with a small book tucked under one arm. He appeared to speak with the receptionist a moment, before leaving again.

"Interesting. But perhaps I should err on the side of caution and activate my little safety net." He said, making sure to keep a close watch on the actions of the phantoms.

"They don't seem too terribly interested in us. Let's just find the damn thing and get out of here." Claudia said, pulling out her Dialer and opening up the Artifact tracker app.

Kakeru nodded, keeping his eyes sharp to the surroundings. "Lead away."

Staring at her Dialer, Claudia walked through the doors the doctor had just left, leading into a dilapidated old hallway with the remains of a white tile floor. The flickering lights illuminated the hall just barely, and the majority of it was cloaked in shadow. She forged on down the hall, turning on a flashlight on the Dialer.

Kakeru followed, his hand on Iskander's Stone, in case he needed to activate it suddenly.

Through another door, and they were in a much better lit hallway. Doors lined either side of the hall, with small viewing windows at about head-height. Those windows turned out to be barred. "This must be where they kept the patients." Claudia said, looking into one of the windows. A window was on the far wall, and there was a specter sleeping with his back facing out. She pulled herself away and continued down the hall.
