Overview: Sanyu is a young man who usually likes to settle things either one of two ways: With peaceful negotiations if the other party is willing to, or through combat if they aren't. He has a good heart, and always protects the innocent and oppressed because of his belief that everything can get better, and no one should stop anyone from finding that.

Henshin Sequence: To change, Sanyu calls "Gokai Change!" and inserts and turns the GokaiRed Ranger Key, and holds his Mobirate forward. An X, a V, and two more Xs emerge from the Mobilate and pass through the Sanyu, forming thee logo, coat, helmet, and another logo on the helmet, in that order. To change into past sentai, Sanyu inserts and turns the Ranger Key, calling "Gokai Change!" as he does. A logo of the Sentai team chosen emerges from the Mobirates and attaches to his suit, changing them into the past sentai hero.

Sanyu Miyazaki is captain of the GokaiGalleon and leader of the Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. Those who knew him as a child would think that the young man, though having a strong sense of justice, would have never become a pirate and started a one-man rebellion against the Zangyack empire. However, after his home planet was conquered by them, and his hometown completely destroyed, that was exactly what he sought out to do. However, whenever he attempted, his older sister would stop him from doing something that could potentially endanger his life, which infuriated Sanyu to no end over how useless he was being. That all changed when he stumbled upon a crashed ship in the outskirts of the refugee camp. Upon further investigation, he found out it was an old pirate ship that had been inactive for many years, presumably abandoned by the last crew. Knowing exactly what he could do with it, he let the ship restart its systems, and continued to explore the remains.

It was deeper within the ship that Sanyu found a treasure chest filled with strange keys. Taking the key and phone that sat near the chest, the young man decided to make his move. Armed with only those two objects, he traveled down to the Zangyack base on their planet, and transformed into GokaiRed for the first time. After a long struggle, he managed to defeat the current ruler of the planet, and freed his home... but he knew there were still other planets out there that needed saving. Taking the GokaiGalleon, and with Karazu practically insisting she come with him, he set out across the galaxy, freeing more and more planets from the Zangyack's control. However, once the pair were branded as wanted pirates, Sanyu had no choice but to temporarily abandon his fight and go somewhere far out of the Zangyack's reach: A planet known as Earth...
