Kiriha's rounds were ending for now; in a few minutes he'd end up getting a break, and that would be nice to have about half an hour to himself. He enjoyed the work, but it was still nice to have his own time. He headed down the hall, on his way to the break room. He had a few hours of work left after this, but he enjoyed work enough not to really mind.

As a teacher it was Sayuri's responsibility to look after her students, even after hours. She had been meaning to check up on Mariko for quite some time; but, she'd been pretty busy. And Mariko had been exhausted.
Finally Sayuri had come with a teddy bear and a meal high in iron. That bento had taken several hours for her to prepare. She'd wanted it to be perfect for Mariko. She hoped the little girl would be able to return to class soon. She was such a sweet child.
Sayuri had stayed with Mariko for a while but Mariko had grown tired so Sayuri left her to rest. She carried another bento for herself. She hadn't had time to eat yet. While she was walking down the hall she ran into a familiar face.
She bowed to Kiriha. "It's nice to see you again," she said kindly.

He stopped and regarded her for a moment, "Oh yeah, you have a student here, don't you?" he said. "I'm still surprised to see you."

Sayuri nodded her head. "Kawashi Mariko," she reminded him. "Why should you be surprised? I do worry about my students."
Her teaching job was secondary to her warrior career;but, that didn't make it meaningless. She still tried to be the best teacher she could given the circumstances. And she still fretted about the kindergarteners. She wanted them to be happy and health.

"I'm merely surprised I ran into you," he said, "That's all." He figured his soft-spoken, emotionless tone wouldn't come off as anything negative to her. He'd rather it didn't, personally. "If you'd excuse me, I need to be on my way."

She'd didn't take offense at his emotionless tone. She believed it was a sign of a well balanced spirit. Being too emotionally invested in anything could lead a person to ruin. It was best to remain calm and collected.
Kiriha was an ally. He had helped her fight Gendoushu and she'd always be grateful for that. As such it was especially important to be kind and polite towards him. She followed behind him for a moment.
"Of course I understand. But I'd like to give you something as thanks." Since she'd run into him it was only appropriate that she express gratitude for his earlier assistance. She held out the bento originally intended for her. "Please eat this when you're hungry. I hope it's to your liking."

He glanced down at it, and then back to her, "I don't need it," he told her, "You can keep your food. I have my own."
Someone approached them, and wrapped an arm around Kiriha's shoulder. She smiled, "Who's this, Kiri-kun?" she asked, looking at Sayuri. Oh, this could end up being fun for Marilen.

Sayuri bowed to the new woman. "Shiraishi Sayuri," she greeted. She resumed a standing position. "So this must be your girlfriend then?" Sayuri asked.
She bowed to the woman again. "I apologize for trying to give Kiriha a bento. I did not realize he was already involved. I only wished to thank him for an earlier favor."

Kiriha didn't answer her. He figured Marilen was going to have some fun, so it was up to her to do this.
"I am," she smiled, "Yoshida, Marilen," she lied about her surname, "How do you know Kiri-kun, Sayuri?" she asked.

Sayuri wasn't sure if Marilen knew about Kiriha's work as a savior. She thought it might be best to keep that a secret. "He helped me practice my swordsmanship. We had a duel," she explained.
"What about you...May I call you Marilen?" She assumed she could since Marilen had used her first name but it was always good to make sure. Some people grew very upset if you were too informal. "How did you meet your boyfriend?"

"A duel?" she asked, looking at Kiriha and then at Sayuri, "I've never known him to practice anything related to swordsmanship." She ignored the other question, feigning some annoyance, "What haven't you told me?"
Kiriha sighed.

Sayuri hoped she hadn't gotten Kiriha into any kind of trouble with his girlfriend. But she hadn't known what else to say. In hind sight, she probably should have lied and said they met at the hospital since she was visiting Mariko. But there was little she could do about it now.
She looked to Kiriha, hoping he could get himself out of whatever trouble Sayuri had unwittingly landed him in.

"I've got nothing," Kiriha told her. He put up with his sister's little games, but didn't care to get involved. He was sure she'd find this incredibly amusing.
Marilen looked at Sayuri and unwrapped her arms from Kiriha, "Tell me the truth," she said, "What were the two of you doing?" she demanded.

"We did actually duel," Sayuri said truthfully, not wishing to get Kiriha in any further trouble.

"He's not a fighter!" she told him, "For as long as I've known him he's never told me anything about this! And we're very close," she said, shaking her head, "What the hell did you do?" She kept her voice low enough so as to not disturb patients or anything.
