Is this really science? It seems more like magic, really. Eh, whatever. I get paid either way.
The Karas System!
The Karas is a single soul chosen above all others to protect their city from supernatural threats. There is one Karas for every city in the world, usually operating under the cover of their own death. Yes, you read right. Every Karas that ever is, was, or will be, is dead. Well, technically half-dead. Karas are made when one makes a sacrifice, usually the ultimate sacrifice, in the name of their city, a rare event nowadays. When this does happen, their soul is plucked from their body, which enters a vegetative state. In this halfway point between life and death, the Karas is able to wander freely to and from the spirit world.
Karas are chosen by a Yurine, a spirit that represents the will of a city. Yurine will often appear as a young girl wearing punk clothing with vibrantly coloured hair. Sometimes they appear as a cat with a bell around their neck. In both forms, they are without emotion. Yurine possess great power, a fraction of which they bestow upon their Karas. For reasons unknown, the presence of a Yurine is heralded with a flock of ravens.
Karas, being dead, are impervious to standard mortal weaponry. As spirits, they are attuned to the world of spirits, and can sense the presence of other spirits. This task is usually left up to the Yurine, who is more in tune with the spirits. Using either their Spirit Watch (a stylised pocket watch with an eye in place of the clock face), or unsheathing their sword, which they keep on them at all times, they are able to access the power of the legendary Yoroi no Karas (Crow Armor), which grants them incredible speed, strength and agility. Yurine seem to be able to dicate when a Karas can don the armor, such as binding their sword with chains, or removing the eye from the Spirit Watch until the "right moment". They also have the ability to change their form into a spinning disc, a car and a jet. Should the moment call for it, Yurine can transfer all her power into the Karas, making them achieve a state known as "Regenerate".
Now I know what you're thinking. How can I possibly beat a Karas? Well, that's actually surprisingly easy. Weapons that are more damaging to the soul, such as Soul Metal or
Lucifer Gold, can injure the Karas, and even remove their soul from the
physical plane, sending them back to the spirit world to heal
themselves. The Karas' powers and existence is tied to Yurine. If one can kill a city's Yurine, they can remove the Karas' power and, in some cases, force their spirit to move on to the afterlife. Also, as a golden rule of being a Karas, the chosen soul must never, ever, EVER see their body. If they do, the consequences are many and great.
