"I hope it's not too discomforting. I only wished to properly introduce myself. I'm Kusugami Arata. Please feel free to call me Arata. Who might you be?" he asked, pumping his hand up and down enthusiastically, not at all perturbed that he was speaking with a spirit.

"Call me Otoha." the spirit had to put some force into the handshake, mostly due to the enthusiasm of the other fellow.

Arata dropped his hand still smiling. "It's wonderful that you still protect the city even after your death," he said with admiration. His smile shifted downwards. "But isn't it lonely if most people can't see you?"
It was obvious that Zeoul was displeased that Arata was continuing to converse with the spirit. Arata paid him no attention. He knew this spirit was good and could be trusted.

"The life...or rather, unlife...of a Karas is a lonely one." Otoha simply shrugged. "I'm prepared for that."

"It doesn't need to be lonely!" Arata said passionately. "I can see you! I can keep you company and help you protect the city! No one should fight alone!"
"Arata, you know nothing about this spirit! You have to be the easiest person to manipulate in human history!" Zeoul snapped. "You need to be more trusting, Zeoul. He slayed Horrors! Would more evidence do you need that he's good?!"

"I appreciate the offer, but you've got the Makai Order to be concerned with." Otoha stroked his hair. "You go where they tell you to. I stay here for as long as I'm needed. Mind you, with all your Makai friends coming to my city, that may change."

Arata's gaze drifted to his fee. "Well...The Order is...not very pleased with me," he admitted "They think my ideas are a little radical."
"You're labeled as a trouble maker and rebel rouser. You've practically ostracized yourself from everyone in the Order!" "But some of those rules are..." "Not now, Arata!"

"Your friend seems to have a lot to say." Otoha eyed the Madogou scathingly.

"I am trying to teach Arata that it's not so much a matter of right or wrong as a matter of practicality. He can never hold his tongue when it comes to his believes. And what have you accomplished as a result, Arata? Have you changed anything?" Zeoul asked.
Before Arata could respond Zeoul interrupted him. "NO! You haven't! You've only ensured your political suicide. You're in a new location now. I was hoping you'd finally learn some sense and keep your ideas to yourself but..."
"Zeoul, how can you speak that way?! A Makai Knight fights for justice! Nothing will ever change if people keep quiet because they simply believe that nothing can ever change. The Makai Order was new once! And some of the rules are cruelly apathetic at best and unjust at worst! I know the truth! I have to try and fix these these unfair rules!"

"And I wonder where all those centuries of tradition got the Makai Order." Otoha wondered sarcastically. "Oh yes. I forgot. You're all in my city now."

Arata smiled back at Otoha. Here was a man who might finally agree with him.
"Exactly! Worshiping tradition is dangerous! We shouldn't be afraid of change! Change is healthy! It's about time the Order started modernizing. Inheritance shouldn't be based on age or gender but ability. And we need to actually look into the Horror threat more seriously. How long has it been since anyone tried to save a Horror's host?
And why does the Order need to isolate itself so?! We're not the only ones who can fight Horrors! We need to educate the populace on what's really going on so they can protect themselves and..."
Zeoul rolled his eyes at Otoha "I do so wonder why Arata doesn't have any Order friends or even acquaintances. And I'm sure it's purely a coincidence he's sent on so many suicide missions."

"Tch. Suicide's overrated." Otoha said. Being dead, he knew this from experience.
"Anyway, as much as I'm a "big fan" of the Makai, I find myself in need of your help." He waited patiently for the "we don't help your kind" and "what do you need help with? You're dead!" that he knew would come eventually.

"Absolutely!" Arata said grinning. "Tell me what needs done and I'd be more than glad to help you!" he said enthusiastically.
"Really, Arata?! Really?! Have you learned nothing from..." "He needs help! What are Knights if not defenders of justice?! It's my responsibility to offer my assistance to any person in need. Knights aren't supposed to judge. They're supposed to protect."

"I don't think you alone can help. I'd like a few more to help."

Arata nodded. "It's always best to have more people. I'll try to champion as many to our cause as possible. Now what do you need help with?" he asked. "Arata, you have next to no Order allies and no one's going to get involved if you start bringing spirits into the mix. You realize that, right?" "Hush, Zeoul. I want to hear what Otoha has to say," Arata said in a business tone.
