"What about his friend?" she asked confused. "He only died yesterday. I'd be surprised if Kiriha was in a good mood. He said he spent a lot of time with Hiro. And he felt responsible since he promised Hiro he'd take care of him. He expected the hospital to save him. But they couldn't."

"Ok, I've got enough then," she said. "You kissed?"

Her cheeks reddened. "In a manner of speaking; but, he said it didn't mean anything. It was just a distraction."

"And how did you feel?" she asked.

"I wasn't sure if it was a healthy way of grieving," she responded, avoiding the question to the best of her ability.

"Answer the question...," she said.

Of course that approach wouldn't work with Marilen. The girl was persistent.
"I was disturbed by how much I enjoyed it," she answered truthfully. Marilen had bothered to contact her again. They'd even shared phone numbers. She was a concerned sister who deserved an honest response.

"Why are you disturbed by it?" she asked.

"I wasn't disturbed by it but by my enjoyment," she clarified. As for why the enjoyment disturbed her...She wasn't perfectly sure.
"My spirit was flustered. I lost focus," she tried to explain.

"And why was that? That you were disturbed by the enjoyment?"

"In strategy your spiritual bearing must not be any different from normal. Both in fighting and in everyday life you should be determined though calm. Meet the situation without tenseness yet not recklessly, your spirit settled yet unbiased," she quoted.
"My spirit wasn't calm. It was unsettled, confused, and lacked focus. That has to be wrong."

She sighed, "I don't quite know if I believe what you said," Marilen admitted, "Sure, you should try to maintain a...relative constant state of being, I guess, but..."

"But what?" Sayuri asked perplexed. It was essential that your spirit be balanced so you could make calm, reasoned judgements. One needed to be rational, focused, and determined to be a capable warrior. Patience was important too. Your emotions should be kept in check. Her emotions definitely hadn't been kept in check. She was...floaty? Was that the right term? She didn't even know.

"You can't expect yourself to always be in a perfect emotional state. If you were perfect, maybe, but humans aren't perfect," Marilen told her.

"We can't be perfect," Sayuri acknowledged. "But we need to strive for perfection. No matter how much we improve it won't be enough. Can you imagine how awful it would be if we didn't even try?"
