"It is so far," she said.

"It would be nice if your brother would follow your example." It wasn't healthy for Kiriha not to value his own happiness. She wasn't really one to talk as being a warrior and protecting the innocent was more important than anything else; but, it really bothered her that Kiriha wasn't happy and didn't think he could ever be happy.

Sayuri nodded her head. He certainly had a lot to figure out. Apparently his body had been altered not that long ago. That would make anyone confused and dissatisfied. She hoped she could help him. No, she couldn't take such a half hearted attitude. She would help him! She would mend his twisted spirit!

Sayuri noticed Marilen looking at her. "Is something the matter?" she asked her.

"No, nothing," she smiled.

Sayuri tried to figure out just what it was Marilen was smiling about. "Do you think your father will be home?" she asked. She hoped not. She already had a very low opinion of the man. Sayuri didn't want to run the risk of saying something something she'd regret by bumping into him.

"I don't know, but I figure we can avoid him. It's a big enough house," she said, "And I do still have a key."

Sayuri smiled, relieved. It would make a very poor impression indeed if she insulted Kiriha's father upon their first meeting.

"Let's just try to avoid anyone who isn't Kiriha," she said.

When they arrived at the large home of the Kyuuseishu family, Marilen headed right to the door and unlocked it. She poked her head in, but didn't see anyone, so she went inside completely, leaving the door open for Sayuri to follow.

Sayuri quickly followed suit. No one was in their path now but there was no guarantee for how long that state would last.

Marilen went right upstairs, going slowly to make sure nobody was around. Ok, good. She headed towards Kiriha's room at the end of the hall, but it was locked.
