Overview: When you first meet the guy named Kiryu Narumi, you'll get the strong impression that he's a jerk. Well he kinda is, but then you would be too if you father, mother, brother, and adopted father were all killed before your eyes. The only thing that's driving him is that his father's killer is out there somewhere and he will find him and he will put a bullet between his eyes. He no longer believes in childish things like heroes and justice, the only thing he knows for certain is revenge...

Kiryu's earliest memory is a world on fire. The flames took every thing from him - his home, his toys, his brother, his parents.. Kiryu was left all alone in the world, but not for long.. The flames were not satisfied with those meager offerings and desired more - it came for Kiryu. He was only six years old at the time when a man in a white suit appeared and saved him from that burning Hell. His name was Sokichi Narumi and he was a detective.

For the next ten years, Sokichi raised Kiryu as his own and even bestowed upon him his own name. Kiryu saw Sokichi as his father, he could not even recall the face of his old one.. Kiryu admired his new dad and dreamed of one day following in his footsteps to become a true hero of justice. He wouldn't let bad things happen to good people like the fate bestowed upon him and his own family.

But alas this happiness together would not last.. Sokichi was murdered in front of Kiryu's eyes by a man seemingly wrapped in flames. The man grinned as he pierced Sokichi's body with his own hand. Kiryu will never forget that grin for it has haunted his nights since.

With the death of Sokichi, Kiryu's belief in justice died with him. There was no justice in this world. Only death and misery..

Kiryu now lives with Sokichi's closest friend and frequent police contact, Mikio Jinno.
