"Stay hidden from these punks until they're gone, and then go once you have a chance... and whatever you do, don't even think about going after them yet. Get to Vol City, and find -anyone- who can help you. Go!!"
"But shishou, what about you?"
"Go, Fuyutsuki-kun!!"
---
Kazuya awoke with a start in a room at a small inn just inside the city limits, breathing hard. The last few days had been stressful; he'd taken little rest on the last leg of his journey to Vol City in favor of getting there, and the Horrors seemed to have a higher population around the place for some reason. It was to be expected though; his master's original plan was to get them here, and he figured that somehow there'd be a welcoming party for them when they arrived.
{Zero... the nightmare again?}
Silva was hanging on the bedpost near him so as to give her a fair vantage point in the event something tried to sneak up on him. Kazuya rubbed his face a bit, running his hands back through his hair.
"Nn."
It had been a few weeks since the incident, and he had known that something like this was bound to happen to them someday in their line of work- but for it to happen so soon was still a bit of a shock to his system. Silva had actually seemed a little worried over his mental state, but he'd been doing his duties just fine since then, and he'd made it this far. Achieving that much was something but the lingering question of "now what" seemed to loom in Kazuya's mind. He looked at the clock. Noon. He'd arrived at the city early in the morning, and was lucky to find someone at the inn that could check him in at that hour. Sitting up for a few moments, Kazuya collected himself before standing up and hitting the restroom so he could shower.
"...Scan for activity, Silva. When I'm through here, we're heading out."
{Understood.}
Forty minutes later found Kazuya leaving the inn, a duffel bag strapped over his shoulder and Silva around his neck, dressed in his typical gear. The handles of his Makai Swords were sticking out at his sides, the scabbards strapped to the outside of his longcoat. He kept to side streets as he wandered around, getting his bearings... the less that other humans knew of what he was or what he was doing there, the better for now.
"Anyone yet, Silva?"
{I may need a little more time, Zero, but I do detect the presence of other Makai Knights within the city. As to whether they are with the enemy, that much is uncertain. There is also a significant amount of Horror activity closer to the center of the city.}
The thought crossed Kazuya's mind that somehow, his master's original goal was going to be much more difficult to achieve in reality than it was in theory.
"If that's where the action is, we'll press on. There's only one way to determine whether any of them are still -true- Makai Knights, after all."
{That street to your right heads east. It's out of the way, but there's a good chance that the path will be the most direct toward the center of Vol City.}
Kazuya nodded, adjusted his pack at his shoulder, and kept moving. Now that he had arrived, there was little time to determine whether anyone in this city would be worth having at his side when the real battle was to come. The smaller houses and buildings started to give way to bigger and more modern constructions as he moved on. To anyone else, a place like this would be a relative utopia, a bustling center of modern urban development. Kazuya knew better, however; the busier the place, the more potential Gates the Horrors had to enter into the human world from Makai, and the more dangerous they became.
