She shrugged, not taking any offense.

Poor parents angered Sayuri to no end. She tried to bring herself back before she dwelled on it too deeply and did something she would regret.
"At least he has you," Sayuri told Marilen warmly. Even if he couldn't tell her about his savior work they seemed to be very close. Still, it must be tough keeping that secret from his family. Sayuri was lucky her father understood who she was and what she needed to do. He certainly gave her both support and guidance.

"He has me, and he has his work. That's about all he has," she told Sayuri.

"That's all he needs," she said with complete confidence. To do something properly it should be the sole focus. Of course his problem was he was divided between his doctor and warrior duties. Whether he liked it or not one would have to take second place.
"Well almost all he needs. He still needs someone to show him he's not God's gift to the world!" She still needed to figure out how to go about showing him that. The family matters wouldn't complicate things! He was an ally and his head needed help being screwed on properly! So it was her responsibility to assist. And assist she would!

She just smiled, "You know what he needs to get that off his mind?" she asked.

"What?!" Sayuri asked, eager for advice. She still hadn't properly formulated a battle plan yet.

"He needs someone he can view as God's gift to him," she said.

"And how would one go about being 'God's gift to him'?" she asked, not really getting what Marilen meant. "Isn't it kind of arrogant to assume that anyone could be 'God's gift to him' or anyone else for that matter?"

"Let me rephrase," she said, "Someone who he will view as everything, hopefully," she said, "Someone who will completely occupy his thoughts."

"He needs a specific person to do that? What about his job?" Hopefully his warrior job. He could probably save more lives as a fighter than as a doctor. But it was his choice to make. He hadn't been trained like Sayuri.

"I'm sure someone like Kiriha can balance it all," she said.

"Well I acknowledge that I need to be more bold to help him. Could you give me some advice as to how I can accomplish this goal, Marilen?"
Viewing a specific person as so important when there were other responsibilities to attend to seemed really odd to Sayuri but people had different strokes. And Kiriha definitely needed help even if he didn't realize it. And as his ally it was Sayuri's job to help him! If you couldn't depend on your allies who else could you turn to?

"Hold on," she said, knocking on the door, "Kiriha!" she said, "I'm going, I need to talk to you first!" She figured he knew that she wanted to play some more games with him or Sayuri, but hoped he'd open up anyway.
He did come to the door and stepped out, "Well, goodbye then," he told his sister, "I'll see you later."
Marilen put an arm around Sayuri's shoulders, "So, did you two have a date or something earlier?" she asked.

"We had a most noble encounter. Kind circumstances allowed me to glimpse his stunning warrior spirit. Our meeting was far more important than any date. Once two people meet in such a way it's impossible to go on like before. A strong bond is forged and even if the two should not see each other for another twenty or fifty years they will never forget the experience they shared and the debt they owe. And even if they never meet again they will always be connected," she said fondly.
The bond between allies was sacred. Kiriha and herself had spilled blood together. They had embraced death and returned. They had protected each other.
And Sayuri had found Kiriha again. She knew he needed help. As his ally, how could she not help him? But in ran deeper than a matter of responsibilty. What had happened to him was horrendous and inexcusable. His spirit was suffering as a result. Sayuri wanted to help restore Kiriha's spirit to its proper state. No, she wanted to do more than restore it. From what Marilen was saying, it sounded like his spirit had never been properly balanced to begin with. She wanted to help make it more than what it was before. She wanted to give Kiriha a state of contentment.

"Bye, Marilen," Kiriha told his sister, pretty much ignoring Sayuri. He turned to walk back into the break room.
"Kiriha," Marilen said. He turned and looked back at the two of them, "Ok," she said, smiling, "I guess if you're not, then I'll just date her. Your loss."
