"As soon as you make it home I will," he promised her.

"I could call an on-duty officer and get you taken away. You're following me, and I don't like it."

"You could," he acknowledged. If it was her decision, she had every right to take her life in her hands and traverse the streets as she pleased. But Richard couldn't let her risk her safety like that. Law be damned.
"But you do realize if you call in another police officer and tell them someone is following you, they'll insist on taking you home, right?" he pressed her.

"Or they make you leave, and let me go on my own way."

He chuckled. "Trust me, as someone who actually works in the police department, they'd insist on taking you home. It would reflect poorly on the department if you ended up dead after calling them for help."

She walked past him, not saying a word. He was probably right...

Seeing as how she wasn't going to call anyone for help, he continued to follow her. He wondered why in the world she was being so difficult. Didn't she worry about her own safety?

As expected, there were no problems in getting back to her apartment. She stopped at the door, turned to him, and told him, "Don't do that again."

"Then don't be out by yourself so late at night and I won't have to," he said stubbornly. "Do you have any idea what could have happened to you?"

"I do," she said, "And it hasn't happened yet."

He knew the smart thing to do was to leave. If she didn't understand what danger she was putting herself in, chances were Richard wouldn't be able to make her more aware. Still, he had to try.
"And that makes it okay?" he snapped. "You see no problem with gambling your life like that?! Don't you have parents who worry about you? Maybe a brother or sister who would be upset if you died? Friends? But no, of course you don't think of any of that. You're not the one who'd need to come to your loved one's home and look in their eyes when you explain that you're dead, that no matter how much they love you, no matter how much they care, they will never ever be able to see you again."
He shook his head bitterly. "No, that's my job." And god he hated that part of it.

"It's not going to happen," she said, "It hasn't yet." She walked up a bit and looked back, "Your choice of clothes suck."

"Just because it hasn't yet doesn't mean it won't!" he retorted. "Why take that chance?! Would it kill you to walk home during daylight hours or have a friend accompany you back to your place?!" he demanded.
When the woman commented on his clothes he looked down, trying to remember what he'd bothered to change into after work. Ah yes. Today was the bright orange over sized sweater and brown sweatpants.
He shrugged. "They're comfortable," he said carelessly. As long as it didn't impede his ability to help people, he really could care less what he was wearing. His uniform was dictated at work and when he was saving people as TheBee he had armor. So what if he looked like some sort of fashion reject on his own time? Most of it was dedicated to making hats in his study anyway.

"Seriously, you need some help with that," is all she told him before opening the door and closing it behind her.

He needed help? Richard wasn't the one traversing the streets of London alone at odd hours of the night! Well...Actually he was but he was a male and a trained police officer. It was different. Like it or not he was better able to handle threats than that girl.
He just stood there for a moment. The idea of the hat was starting to take root. He fumbled for his notebook to start sketching it. He did make sure to move away from her house first, though. He didn't want her to think he was stalking her. Of course it was dark but he had a flashlight.
He briefly wondered how odd he must look, flashlight in his hand, sprawled over a notebook, sketching a hat in the dark wearing a bright over sized orange sweater and brown sweatpants no less. But then he gave his sketch his full attention and paid his other thoughts no mind.
