Kouga presumably just died. This is far in the future.
As for the lost shine, they're hoping "Beginning" deals with it, but I doubt it will.

The lost shine thing has yet to be explained sadly, so maybe season 4.

He was working on another show (which is going to air in like a week) at the time. Either that, or he was working on the Kouga movie or the Jabi/Rekka movie or both, or something, nobody's quite sure of the timeline of when he was working on what.
