"Of course not, I would enjoy the challenge, the teachers of old use to teach students of various elements even one that counter their own," David said, "though sadly these days they are divided by elements. At least that's what my father use to tell me...I was homeschooled though so I wouldn't know," as he remembered the lessons with his father. He then looked at Erika as he nodded again, "Uncontrolled magic, that was what essentially it is, actually it's the only way to determine if a child has magic. Just wait for him to blow something up and it's indicative that the child has magic," he explained simply.

Erika was grateful he wasn't going to give up on her just because her element was counter to his.
"Thanks! I'm really looking forward to having proper magic lessons!" she said excitedly.
"Um also...After you left Mr. Waynguard said somethings but he didn't really bother to explain it. He said 'I'm not in the greatest emotional condition to explain why you would be breaking almost every magical law in existence by attempting any of those four acts'," she quoted.
"What exactly did he mean by magical laws? Oh and the spells he was talking about as being pure evil were instant death spells, mind control, pain induction, resurrection."
"But what if someone was really ill and in incredible pain or gravely wounded? Couldn't you use the spell to put them out of their misery? Or what if you used it to defeat an enemy that was killing a lot of people? And pain can sometimes spark things to function. Mind control might be used to help break people free of hallucinations or delusions. Resurrection sounds dangerous and against the nature of things but what if you really needed information only a dead person had? Couldn't you reanimate them just briefly to learn what you needed to know and then restore them to their proper state?" she asked.
"I don't think even those magics need to be evil!"

David nodded since he was looking forward to see what potential there was in this girl, it would be interesting to see what kind of powers that she possessed. Erika then asked him a series of question as he began to think on how to best answer it, "The magical laws are a series of laws that mages have to abide by, they say that they were created so that we do not harm the non-magical people in this world with our magic, it has led to persecution of our kind as you might remember the witch hunts in Europe and America. However what you said is correct, it comes to one fundamental fact: magic is neither good or evil. It is how and who uses that determines whether it is good or evil. So you are correct, the kinds of magic that you have stated are not evil, they are neutral! And your examples are spot on; however it is people like Mr Waynguard, narrow-minded people, that refuses to see that fundamental fact and are therefore so blinded and follow the 'magical law' so strictly that they have hampered their potential. But I am sure you do not want that to happen to you correct?"

Erika was eagerly drinking in every word. She'd never had any sort of magical history lesson before. It had just been her, blindly trying to control a magic she didn't fully understand.
"No! I definitely don't want to be close minded like him!" she agreed fervently. "He wouldn't even give me a reason as to why that magic was wrong. He basically just said it was and he was too tired to explain," she said frustrated.
"I'd much rather have an open minded teacher like you!" she said excitedly. "But...I really don't think Mr. Waynguard likes me. He seems to think my ideas are really dangerous. And I can't believe he tried to tell me religion would solve my problems!" That had really annoyed her.

David was glad that Erika chose him over that man, it would do him good to have an apprentice...someone to share his philosophy with. However he had to be careful to nurture her first, too fast and she will go against him, too slow and eventually she would catch on. "That man believes he is the embodiment of magic and thinks very low on people who do not conform to his ideals, his words does not need to be heard, stuck with me and I will show you the truth. I will not fool you with technical words and ideas, I will show you the cold fact of what magic is capable of. As for religion...it does not need to be said that it has no place in the world of magic. Did Merlin rely on magic to gain his legendary skills? No. Did the alchemist of reknown depended on magic? No. Religion is nothing. Only our own skill and powers make us into what we are today, only your own skill and power can turn you into the most powerful mage of the era!"

"I was...really disappointed," she admitted. "I heard he created the MagiPhones so I tried to find him, figuring he'd help me understand my power. I was so excited to finally be able to ask someone questions but my questions made him feel uncomfortable so he basically told me to shut up. I can't imagine having him as a teacher. You won't be like that, will you?" she asked hopefully.
"You'll let me ask as many questions as I want and you'll give me reasonable answers to the best of your ability, right?" She wanted a free classroom environment. She excelled when she was allowed to be creative, think outside the box and ask deep probing questions.
"I don't expect you to know everything. But if you honestly don't know I'd appreciate it if you just said that instead of trying to shut me down and make me feel stupid or giving me some half baked explanation." Mr. Waynguard seemed that type.
"I'd like to be a powerful mage like you! I want proper training," she said excitedly.

"I am sorry he dissapointed you, I know it must have been horrible for him to shut you out like that. You have a lot of potential within you that, when you are properly trained, will enable you to become someone that all mages would admire. Of course you may ask me any questions you have, learning is an open experience and as I said. I do not aim to fool you with half baked answers or have you feel like a fool; I am not like that man. You are in good hands with me."

"It's fine," she said sincerely. "I was able to meet you because I went to look for him!" she said happily.
She rolled her eyes and scoffed. "If he tries to say he's my guardian again I'll have to restrain myself from hitting him! He can't even be bothered to answer my questions and he seems a little possessive. I'm not HIS Magiranger," she said frustrated.
"Yes, I'm sure you'll make a much better teacher. You seem very open minded and knowledgeable! And you encourage questions and exploration!" She was really looking forward to his lessons.
"But..I did want to ask...Mr. Waynguard said that seers only see the worst. Is that true? I thought that maybe if I received training and honed my powers I might be able to see something positive. Is Mr. Waynguard right? No matter how much I train I'll only see the darkest outcomes?"

David was happy at this outcome, her certainly didn't expect that to happen, he was glad that he had met that light wizard then. It allowed him to meet Erika, "You might want to be careful, people like him can use magic that can harm you without you knowing; hypocrites are what they are. They preach harmony and say that magic is evil while they harm people that go against them. I am glad you decided not to follow him. As for your seer powers...it may be possible to see good things, but that is rare, historically seers onky see the darkest future and outcome. I am sorry, but that is the truth of the matter."

"Really?" she asked, surprised. "You think he would try to hurt me?" Mr. Waynguard definitely seemed closed minded, narrow viewed, and unreasonable but he was supposed to have people's best interest at heart. "But I thought he wanted to protect people. You really think he would hurt me when I have no intention of harming anyone?" she asked concerned.
She scolded herself for being so naive. He probably would hurt her if he thought she was a danger to the stability of the world.
"How should I be careful?" she questioned seriously. It was always best to be cautious.
She nodded her head. "Thank you for being honest. I thought that might be the case." She hadn't wanted to admit it but she had believed Mr. Waynguard. Even before she had met him...Despite her greatest hopes...She had figured that her power might only ever show her the worst outcomes. That was simply the way it worked.

"For all their talk about wanting to save people, they are ultimately interested in protecting themselves. If they see someone has the power to topple them they would do everything within their power to either chain them to their service or to eliminate them. That is the cold truth. In order to be careful you must act weak in front of them, let them think that you cannot be stronger than them; of course build up your power so that should they try to harm you they would find themselves fighting a powerful opponent. I can teach you how to fight with magic."

"While all this talk about magic and such is very interesting," said Zack," Then could you answer one simple question. Why is that monster which 'eats' people is hiding behind you like a freaking shield?!"
The Cat Fangire being 'ordered' to do whatever it wants decided what it wants was to stay close to the strange being and try to understand what it is. It also didn't understand squat about all that talk of magic.

((I honestly thought you guys were still far behind XD))
Damn all mighty. He had completley forgotten about the monster. He cursed its abysmally small brain and stupidity for not running away as he sighed, "Who knows? Perhaps he likes the taste of my armour," he said with a chuckle before gripping his sword and turning to the Fangire, "Return to darkness," he said before he pointed his sword and chanted something as darkness covered the Fangire, "and begone" he said as the Fangire blinked out of existence. To anyone it would seem he had destroyed the Fangire, but in reality he had sent it to another dimension and he would release the Fangire once everything was clear. "The monster is dead, the darkness will destroy it completely, you have my word."

Really?! They would try to hurt her even though she didn't want to harm anyone? She just wanted to protect other people! But...She supposed sometimes even with everything she had seen and experienced she could be too idealistic and naive. People felt threatened when new ideas or old ideas that had never been accepted were thrown around. When people got scared of what others could do, even if they had pure intentions, they would without fail try to control or destroy said person. Hadn't history taught her that?
She had been so caught up with the discussion of magic that she had completely forgotten about the monster. And it did seem to be hiding behind her future teacher, using him as a shield. She watched both the creature and her teacher carefully, trying to make sense of the matter.
Her teacher chanted a spell and then the creature was gone. Her phone beeped and the black dot disappeared. "It's not here anymore," Erika acknowledged, holding out her phone to everyone to indicate the dot was gone.
But why had it been hiding behind her teacher? Why hadn't it attacked him? She had a theory but she thought it wisest not to say in front of the others. They too might be skeptical of the positive uses of dark magic.
She really wished she knew telepathy. She really wanted to ask him about it. She was sure that he had been controlling the creature. He had probably been playing with magic to see if he could tame a destructive power and use it for good ends. Or...He could just be a dark mage like Mr. Waynguard thought, but she still didn't really buy that. Dark magic did not need to be used for dark purposes.
Although Erika didn't know telepathy, she really had been tampering the heck out of the bird spell she learned. Even if he couldn't answer she would ask. She summoned her water bird and whispered a few words to it. It landed on Mr. McKinnon's shoulder and repeated the words to him so softly that no one else would be able to hear. "You're lying aren't you? You were trying to control and manipulate it with magic, weren't you? You wanted to see if you could control it, curb its destructive power, and use it to protect people, right?"
