Erika fell to her knees as the dark energies radiating from the crumbling building at the edge of one of Guinea's forests assaulted her senses. The screaming voices from her visions filled her head with a vengeance. But these weren't mere memories or recollections. Curses...Dark magic was spewing force...There was no doubt about it. The other mages were here dismantling century old protections. And the spells seemed to be as potent as the day they were cast.

The dark magic pushed David, but he continued on as he pushed back with his own dark magic, in a battle against dark mages it was just a matter of how far another was willing to go to have what they wanted. And therefore there was nothing that could defeat David as he soldiered on though he did wonder where Erika was...

Erika was originally overwhelmed by the dark energies; but, she refused to allow herself to be bested. Mr. McKinnon had called her a seer. She was a seer! And her vision was in the process of being fulfilled! And if this vision came true and the dark mage received the book, the world would be wracked with disaster. Such a fate was unacceptable. And as one of the few people who knew of the trouble, it was her responsibility to do something about it.
She pictured herself being surrounded by a typhoon, protective waters which shielded her from the dark power and nurtured her will. She slowly pulled herself to her feet and began to move forward. Of course she wasn't actually surrounded by water. It was all in her head. But the imagery fueled her motivation. And she couldn't allow herself to cast a spell yet. She was exhausted as it was. She would need to save all of her energy for when she most needed it.
She simply couldn't allow the book to fall into that mage's possession. Unimaginable catastrophes would occur if she allowed such a thing. And Merlin...He had been a seer. A dark, terrible seer but a seer. If this mage also had visions and used this book to further his power...Would he achieve feats similar to those of the great warlock?! The notion was truly terrifying. Regardless of whether or not the book could help Erika was her own premonition problems, she needed to make sure it remained safe from that mage.
Erika moved forward faster and faster, plunging into the center of the free flowing curses and dark energies.

David sensed it. Within this swirling chaos of magic there is also the raging water, Erika was here and she would no doubt be continuing on, he pondered whether or not he should help her. She was a beginner and a Magiranger and therefore she would be valuable to him...but at the same time he wanted to assess how she does under pressure, how she does against dark magic, other than using dark magic on her he wouldn't be able to figure it out. Therefore this was the perfect time to actually test her as he simply continued on, smashing through the various wards and spells that were set around the place...the person really didn't want anyone else entering this place. He would need to hurry lest he used the book for something that David did not want to happen.

Erika wasn't used to tapping into magical energies to track the presence of others. She had no idea if her teacher was even here. She didn't have time to think about it. She simply had to go to that secret room and retrieve the book and amulet first. Although there was a problem with that. They were sealed and required a blood sacrifice. She decided to worry about that later and first focus on plugging forward.
As the magic grew stronger she did have need to actually summon her adaptable water shield. It rotated around her, moving and altering its form to guard her as spells assaulted her from ever angle. Her shield broke several times but she kept rebuilding it and moving forward. She could not fail. She had to find the book and amulet.

David kept careful track of Erika while at the same time going towards the room, she was so far doing a fine job, there was nothing that indicated that she was having difficulty going towards the area. However how long she would be able to maintain that concentration before being overwhelmed was something that only she could decide as he faced a golem blocking his way, "Out of my way I do not have time to deal with you," he said as the golem punched him. However he blocked it with his shield before he used his sabre to cut it down, "Not even worth my time..." as he continued onwards.

Erika, despite being less versed in magic and already exhausted, had the advantage of actually knowing where she was going. She didn't have to follow the taint which she was grateful for as this whole building reeked of dark magic. Adrenaline was all that was keeping her going at the moment.
She walked in one of the hallways and headed towards the wall where there would be a brick she'd need to enchant to move and allow her access to the hidden floor. However, before she could reach the wall she found herself facing a dragon golem. And this golem was nothing like the dragon she had built earlier in the day. It was much larger and it radiated power. And unfortunately, it seemed to be fairly sentient. As soon as she neared the wall it rained fire down upon her. She quickly whipped up her water shield but this fire was intense, stronger than anything she had previously faced. It evaporated her shield and scorched her. She fell back and tried to think of how she should deal with the beast. It wasn't giving her much wiggle room. It moved quickly as she scampered back, shadowing her, getting ready to blast her with fire again.

David sensed an attack on his 'student' as he turned towards there and began to walk over there, perhaps he would be able to see how far she had gotten in terms of combat magic. It would be a good time to assess her and to see where it would need improvements as he saw the dragon golem. He sticked to the shadows and continued to observe her silently.

Alright...She needed to move quickly. She was still smarting from the burns on her arm that had gotten through the shield. She couldn't allow another direct hit. But this golem...Was really powerful and strong. What was her best course of action?
Water was adaptable. The shield hadn't worked so she'd need to try something better. As it blasted her with fire again she summoned not a direct shield but a violent wave of water. The fire was still stronger than her wave, able to evaporate it. But her wave was thick and she had moved by the time the flame broke through the water barrier.
The dragon golem closed in and swiped at her but she rolled and dodged. Still, she wouldn't be able to do that forever. She needed to think of a way to fight back.
She doubted it would do much good but to give her some extra time to plan she summoned five water birds. She tampered with the spell so that as they flew at the golem they turned to ice and shattered on contact. It was more of a distraction than anything but it kept the golem busy for a second.
Ice...Just as fire evaporated water...Maybe she could rely on ice to freeze this thing. But...It had taken her two hours to freeze water and make a golemn. She wouldn't have that kind of time or stamina and this was a golem made of flames! As a water mage, manipulating flames was incredibly difficult for her.
She wasn't sure she could do that so she tried something else. She summoned more water to her side and shaped it into the form of the blade. The golem had taken care of her birds by now and rained down more fire. She threw up her shield and backed away as it burned through, beginning to freeze her sword. Quickly now! Quickly! She didn't have much time.

David continued to watch interested at how she was adapting to the battlefield, she would need to work on reflexes and quick thinking, but she did better than he expected her to. He did not move when the birds were destroyed as he wanted to see how she would react when she was at her most pressured moment, that would tell a person what another person is like and what they do to keep themselves calm.

The golem swiped at her again and this time the blow struck as she was focused on freezing her sword and didn't have time to throw out more protective water. She fell back but rolled aside so it at least couldn't smash her twice.
It stung but she needed to keep focusing on her sword. And done! Good! She had a blade of ice! Now...This was the tricky part. Time to go on the offensive!
She lunged herself at the dragon and aimed her sword for where a heart would typically be. Imagery was important for her spells. The golem seemed surprised that she was fighting back instead of dodging. The sword hit its mark but met heavy resistance. This was a magical golem after all and this was Erika's first attempt at making a magic sword, one of ice no less.
She closed her eyes and envisioned water flowing into the blade, calling upon the energy of all the sea creatures, mermaids and even water dragons. Her sword possessed their spiritual energy, the energy of the benevolent and powerful dragons and the wise and kind mermaids. There was nothing it couldn't break through. Again, this was pure visualization, pure imagination but that was how Erika fueled her magic.
The blade slowly delved deeper into the creature. The golem breathed fire towards her but she reflexively summoned a shield. She knew it would break through and she'd be burned but she allowed that. This sword...This sword was all that mattered. It couldn't break. It was the one that would cause the creature to shatter.
Finally the sword was deep enough in. She felt it was in the center of the flames, where its heart should be. She had been scorched again and it hurt but she set the pain aside. Now...This wasn't any ordinary sword...Now that it was in the center she could enact her plan.
She chanted a few words and ice spewed out from her sword, tainting the creature, covering it with ice. Water...Water spread quickly and freely and ice was still water...Perhaps the water slept inside. Perhaps it had nearly forgotten its true form but it waited. It waited for the day it could break free and be true to itself. With the speed of water surging forth the creature was encased in ice.
She let go of the blade and stepped back. The creature was already breathing fire, trying to break free of the ice. She didn't have much time.
She summoned more water and made it into another sword and froze it in less than half the time it had taken her to build the first blade. While the creature was still trapped inside the ice she swung her blade, aiming to remove both the ice and its head. Her eyes were closed. She needed to visualize this. Its head rolling on the ground at her feet.
She heard the appropriate clang and crumble and when she opened her eyes its head was right where it was supposed to be, at her feet. She slumped to the ground exhausted but only for an instant. She didn't have time to relax. She needed to enchant the brick. She dropped her sword and sprinted towards the wall.

David had watched the entire battle and had seen her enchant a blade of ice, which was an impressive thing considering that she just learned how to make ice properly today. He thought that the blade of ice would not work with the dragon since it was made from a much experience magician, but he was proven wrong when Erika was able to slay the dragon as its head rolled to the ground before it crumbled into nothing. Without any time to relax Erika continued onwards and went to a part of the building, perhaps that was where the items were? David moved from the shadows as he looked at the enchanted brick, "Move," he simply said before using his sword to slash through the barrier.

Erika was beyond tired. She had cast so many spells today on top of having a powerful vision and then going over said vision multiple times in her crystal ball. She had no idea her teacher was there until he stepped out of the shadows and said move. She wondered how long he'd been there but decided that wasn't the most pressing question at the moment.
"Have you seen any of the other mages?" she asked. "How far have they gotten?"

The barrier fell in a few strikes as it crumbled, he continued onwards before turning to Erika, "I have not seen any magicians yet...they may be hiding somewhere...waiting for us," he said simply. "We must move fast if we are to obtain the items lest they do something that is not beneficial for us."

"But there's the issue of the items requiring a blood sacrifice," she reminded him. "What are we supposed to do about that? The blood was spilled onto the book and amulet and they drank them all up. The last barrier wouldn't break until the ally was completely drained," she explained.
"Oh and about that golem I just 'slayed'...Watch out for that. It can repair itself. It will be up and kicking in no time. And I knew about one of its weaknesses from my vision. I think that's the only reason I was able to take care of it the way I did."
