"I see," David said unsure of what to say exactly however he chuckled at her exclamation, "I said that most people would enjoy Merlin being in their head since they will think he will give them ultimate power. But normally no they would hate it as much as you do right now," he said as he continued until he arrived at the blood sacrifice barrier, "now...how will we get out of this one," he muttered to himself as he began to think of a solution.

"Um...Yeah...I'd be more worried about Merlin possessing me than giving me ultimate power," she said dryly. "If you want him I'll trade," she offered.
'He's thinking of sacrificing you.' 'Shut up! He wouldn't do that!' 'And you know this how? Attack him first!' 'Yeah, right! Even if I wanted to hurt him and I don't he has way more magic and power than I do.' 'I can lend you some of my strength.' 'And this sounds like the beginning of possession.' 'He tainted you and you'd trust him.' 'You're in my head!' 'In a way so is he.'
Erika didn't know what to think or what to do. She didn't want to hurt anyone and she didn't care for all this noise. Was it true? Was her teacher considering sacrificing her? She subconsciously backed away from him.

David saw her unconsciously back away as he smirked, "Don't worry...you're not the sacrifice," he reassured her, "as for Merlin...I'll look into how to banish him from your mind and transfer him into something like a crystal ball or something," as he then summoned a golem made of blood, his own blood, "this is a blood golem. Many would consider this dark magic, but you and I both know about that issue and I won't bother going into the philosophy of that again. But essentially this should work against the barrier," as the golem dropped a blood as the barrier then sucked the golem dry before dispersing, "I thought so...he didn't consider that...now hurry along, our goal is near."

Erika sighed in relief when he assured her she wasn't the sacrifice.
'Idiot. He still thinks he can use you. He wouldn't be here without your vision.' 'Then why did you say that?! You thought I'd attack him?!' 'Probably too soon for that. I was curious to see what you'd do. So are you going to invite him into your mind? He'll just increase his influence over you, taint you further.'
Erika didn't have an answer for that. This was beginning to be quite the problem.
Erika looked on eagerly as her teacher summoned another golem. "It's your blood. It's not like you're hurting anyone," she agreed. "And you were able to spare a person from death!"
'He's trying to impress you, win your trust. You're too naive.'
Again she had no answer. She simply ran behind her teacher.

David continued inwards, there were no more barriers or wards since the blood ward was the last of them. So he would be close to his goal as he entered the room and saw the dark mage pouring over the book; he was surprised that there was another person that gotten past the barriers as he was chained to the wall with a quick spell, "Stay," David ordered simply as he took the books. The book and amulet seemed to radiate with power as he looked at it with glee, "look at this...this is the power that Merlin once wielded...isn't this wonderful?" he breathed, "All this knowledge...now within our grasp..."

Erika believed that knowledge was pure. Magic was neutral. It all depended upon the will of the user but these items struck her as wrong. She trembled at the raw power she felt from them.
But at the same time she felt an incredible yearning, a need to touch them and hold them. Was it her will or the will of Merlin? But these...These shouldn't be destroyed they could be used for good. And Merlin had been the best seer. Maybe the book could help her. But this yearning...It was unnatural and it scared her.
"Incredible," she couldn't help but gasp. Such untapped potential. She felt...more alert simply being in their presence. But as she so badly wanted to hold them, she wondered if she should keep herself from touching them.
'Just see if he'll actually share with you,' Merlin warned. 'He might. He underestimates your potential. He's a fool. He doesn't appreciate your raw talent and he underestimates the usefulness of your visions.'
'You're just flattering me, trying to get me to open up to you so you can possess me.' 'And he's never flattered you and tried to win your trust?' 'He never assaulted my mind!' 'Not that you're willing to admit.' 'Shut up.' 'Ask him if you can hold the items.' 'Why?! What will that do to me?!' 'It'll see just how much he 'trusts you.' 'No! I might be a novice but I think I know enough not to let you have those. I mean they used to belong to you. I don't want you trying to overpower me.'
She tried to ignore Merlin and instead focus on her teacher. "Do you know if he read any of it?" she asked nervously. It would a problem if he found the hints of where one of the other books were. "What are you planning to do with him?"

"Isn't it?" David said reading a few pages of the book and saw that it was about alchemy and how to make gold. Useful for his fundings, as he looked at the magician just as Erika asked him the question of what he wanted to do to him, "What do you think we should do with him?" David asked Erika posing the question to his student. To see if she had been corrupted yet or if she was still fighting against it.

Although Erika was too afraid to touch the book, she did stand behind her teacher and read over his shoulder. She didn't doubt that these spells were way above her head but it was interesting to read about the possibilities. Again a great yearning to touch the book nearly overwhelmed her. She had to fight not to reach out her hand for it.
When he asked his question, the first thought that hit her was that the mage should be killed. He was dangerous and he had terrible intentions. It would be better for the world if he was destroyed. It wasn't any different than the way she killed sentient creatures and even dark humans doing her work. But...No...She hated that. And she always hesitated. There should be another alternative. Why...Why was that her first thought?!
'That would be the dark seed he planted in you. You sensed it and backed away before it got too far along. That's why you can still take time to rationalize.' 'Or that could be you! You're not exactly a light mage yourself. Or it could be the left over taint from the other voices. How am I to know? I'm too new.' 'Stop deluding yourself.' 'I don't make snap judgements.' 'Sometimes commendable and sometimes troubling. A mage should at some level rely on their instincts.'
"There...There must be a sort of memory wipe spell, right?" Erika asked tentatively. "That way even if he's read anything he'll forget. And...Could it make him forget about his magic too so he's not a threat?"
She still felt that the safest thing to do would be to kill him. But that was only meant to be used as a last resort! It should not be the go to action!

"A memory wipe? Yes that is possible, but the memory will not be wiped per say...it is only hidden. It like storing the memory in a vault, locking it, and then ripping the password to the vault into shreds. It would keep the memory away from the person so he would not be able to remember, but to continue using the analogy the vault can be breached into and the memory extracted by a highly skilled mage...do you want to run that risk?" David explained in a monotone voice, as though simply explaining rather than judging what Erika should do.

Erika cringed. A memory wipe was risky. What if he did remember? Horrible things could happen. He might find the other book or he might remember a spell that would cause great harm. Wouldn't it be best if he was killed? Safer? If he lived and the memory was recovered it would be on her head. But it was a life...A life shouldn't be taken so easily.
"What about a magical oath? Can you form a contract with him, make him swear never to go searching for the memory or have another mage help him find it?" she asked, clutching at straws. No. She didn't want anyone to die! She wanted to protect people.
'You do realize that to protect people some must be killed, right? But you must know that to do what you do.' 'It's a last resort!' 'Should it be? I have to agree with your teacher in this case. I don't much care to have someone else find my other books or use my magic.'

"An oath is a good alternative, but oaths can be broken and it would result in the man's death, plus for a contract specific clauses have to be set," David explained, "we have to make sure we cover every angle and we do not have the time. There is also the risk that the oath can 'expire', in other words the magic binding that oath loses its power as time went on and again we run the risk of him simply uttering a spell that would have disastrous consequences. So...what do you think is the only step?" he asked.

No! NO! No! There had to be some other alternative. There simply had to be! He wasn't a threat at the moment! This...This was all because of her vision. If she hadn't seen this, she wouldn't need to make such a terrible choice.
'But then you wouldn't have the book and amulet or rather your teacher wouldn't. The mage would. Would that really be better? Why do you hate your gifts so much? They provide you with rare insight, insight most people even magical ones aren't privy too. For all your teacher's knowledge and power he'd have no idea about this place without you.'
'Stop trying to win me over! I'm going to get rid of you as soon as possible!' 'And if you hadn't come here you wouldn't have learned about your teacher's real intentions.' 'I don't know that wasn't you or the other voices!' 'You've killed sentient creatures before, even humans. Why is this so hard?'
Erika didn't want that responsibility. She hated acting like she knew what was best, taking lives like this. But if the oath could be broken and memories restored...What choice did she have?
"How likely is it?" she asked, stalling for time. "If you do a memory wipe, what are the odds he'd remember?"

David looked at Erika for a long while knowing that she was merely trying to find other alternatives, stalling for time, he could not let her broken here. It was bad enough that she had a potentially dark mage in her head trying to mess her up, but now she was trying to make a hard decision. "Erika..." he said, finally using her first name, "leave this room, if you can't make the hard decision then leave this room and wait for me outside. I will do it," he said sternly as he turned waiting for Erika to leave. She may dislike him for this, but he could not simply let this man be...he would tell everyone about him and then that man would come and track him down, taking Erika with him.

Erika's eyes brimmed with tears. No, she couldn't leave. That would be the cop out, the easy way to go. She'd be weak. Just like her mother.
She raised herself taller. "No, you're right. He...He has to be stopped," she said with complete sorrow. She stared her teacher directly in the eyes. "But this was my vision and therefore it's my responsibility. I at least...I at least want to make sure he doesn't suffer. I'll do it." Her voice was firm and it didn't tremble even as she felt sick to her stomach. This was necessary. She knew it was. Both her teacher and Merlin said so. And Merlin was right. This wouldn't be the first person she had killed.

David nodded, he did not think that she would have the will to actually go through with the act, perhaps his corruption was taking hold of her. Or at the very least it was starting to somewhat work its dark magic, "Very well...do it quickly...this will not be your last...there are many who will try to harm you and sometimes simply letting them be is not an options, when the time comes you must be prepared to strike them down so that you are safe. You are a brave girl for taking this step...I commend you for this decision even though it was not hard to choose," he said.
