The buzzing noise increased in volume and intensity. It was maddening. With each syllable she uttered it grew more chaotic and all consuming. It was so hard to concentrate on anything. Her sense of self was slipping again but the words...She desperately clung to the remaining words. She couldn't even recall why they were so important or why she needed to say them but simply that she did.
Voices. Voices. Voices. Drowning out her own. But she had to persevere. She was close. She could feel it.
Other words. Familiar. Comforting. She tried to listen, focus on them, suffocate the other voices incessantly shrieking in her head. And something else...energy? Warmth?
The words were getting harder to speak. Even with the outside voice to center her concentration around the shear mass and magnitude of the screeches were overwhelming.
But just a few more...Just a little bit more...She finished casting her spell and she was violently thrown back by the magical forces she had unleashed. Her body began to spasm and her head felt like it was going to explode. One last howl that shook her very core and then...silence. Blessed silence.
Her eyes were bleeding more but she had stopped shaking and there was peace. No more buzzing. Was that it? Were they all gone?
Seer.
A thought. Not her own. Of course. Even if it was just an echo of the dead Merlin it would be foolish to assume that she could banish him from her mind so easily. But the rest...As far as she could tell they were all gone. She would have to cope with the one for the moment.
She stood up, trembling, and turned to see her teacher. And then it clicked that he was the one who had been speaking to her. He had been the cause of that energy or whatever it was that seeped into her and helped her focus.
"Thank you," she croaked. Her tongue wasn't working properly after everything.

He continued to hold onto her as she convulsed and tried to finish her chanting as he continued to put magic into her as she then finished her magic. She then exploded as she was thrown back, but David prevented her from getting injured as she then finally gasped as she stood up and croaked a thanks, "I merely did what I was suppose to do, what happened?" he asked her.

They were on a time table. He had made that clear earlier. She needed to be as clear and concise as possible.
"I couldn't access my water magic. As I was trying to figure out what to do all these voices filled my head. Voices of the dead. Mages who had helped build the protections and wards and the people who had been sacrificed to accomplish it."
She shivered. "So much hatred and malice. So much noise! I..I lost sense of my self. I couldn't really remember who I was but then I had a vision. But it wasn't like anything before. I've only ever seen the future until today. But I saw the past. Morgana and Merlin were having an argument. And I saw...I saw their battle. Merlin did some sort of spell, trying to warp and twist Morgana's will but she had a series of chants and counter curses that freed her."
She shivered. "Even if I see the past, it seems I can only see terrible things. I watched Merlin kill her. But the vision...It gave me a brief clarification of that I was me. And I..I tried to remember Morgana's spells and repeat them," she explained.
"It mostly worked but.." She shifted uncomfortably. "Not completely. Um...I think there's an echo of Merlin in my head." She'd said some pretty crazy things over the years. Nothing sounded more nutty than this. She wondered if her teacher would think her mad. Who knew. Maybe she was. All she could think about was his earlier statement. No, nothing good did come from being a seer.

So Merlin did use dark magic to enslave his opponents, oh if only the magical community knew that, they would be in an uproar. He hid a chuckle from his throat not wanting to sound as though he was glad that Merlin was a dark mage...but what a find that is, "Really? It seems Merlin is not what other people think he is," he said as he wondered if Merlin hid any books or information that would allow him to obtain the ultimate power, "now you see what I mean by the fact that there is no good or dark magicians. Even as someone as legendary as Merlin used magic that most would consider dark and killed Morgana, not to mention he probably twisted everything around and made himself look the hero. I hate people like that, people who preach good and light when in reality they are evil and dark, they are the worst kind of magicians for they are hypocrites. Don't you hate people like that? Don't you wish that they would just disappear?" he asked looking at her as he put a hand on her shoulder and fed her the slightest of dark energy into her, just enough to plant a seed within her.

"We're too far removed," Erika began. "We don't know what the whole picture is. I...A lot was going on. And there were emotions running high on both sides. Merlin definitely used dark magic but he still seemed upset when Morgana was killed and I..I don't like hypocrites either. But dark and light...Morals...They're a matter of perception. It's not good to make snap judgements."
Her teacher placed a hand on her shoulder and suddenly she felt sick. She reflexively backed away. But then she wondered. Wasn't it more than a simple dislike of hypocrites? Didn't they disgust her? And people who whispered honeyed words while causing all sorts of destruction...Wouldn't it be better if they just died?
She paled. Of course not! How could she even think something like that?! What was wrong with her? Was it the mind magic? Was Merlin doing something to her? Was her teacher? Was she tired?
"I don't want to hate anyone," she said weakly. "I want to help people." But don't you hate Mr. Waynguard? Didn't it frustrate you, the way he broke everything into good and evil and shut down your questions? Didn't you want to smack him when he said that was just the deal with being a seer and you should turn to religion?
She trembled. What was wrong with her? Something was terribly, horribly wrong for her to be thinking these things.

"It is true that we don't know the whole picture, but it is likely that Merlin did use dark magic and Morgana was trying to help him. And what was she rewarded by? Treachery. That was her reward. Not to mention that since then she had always been portrayed as a dark magician who only wanted to kill people," David said calmly. Erika had backed away the moment that the dark energy came into her, he would have tried again, but it was too early and she would be suspicious so he would have to be content with what he had put into her for now. "I admire your need to help people, but some people don't want help...they believe that they are superior from other people, they believe that they are better than most. Even if you offer them help they would refuse it or even ridicule you for such things...alas that is how narrow minded people act," he said with a sigh.

Erika couldn't deny that Merlin had used dark magic. She had witnessed it. And he wasn't using it for good ends no matter what his original intentions were. "No, at the end Merlin was definitely lost. I'm sure he could have used his dark magic for good things but I guess...he lost sight of what was important," she agreed. "What he did to Morgana was terrible."
"But being ridiculed doesn't matter!" she insisted. She'd been ridiculed for a very long time because of her fits regardless of whether people believed her visions or not. She was viewed as mad by some or simply that annoying sickly type by others.
"The important thing is trying to do what's right."
She still felt really sick. Maybe if she tried some of Morgana's magics later she'd feel better. Maybe it was because her eyes were still bleeding.
She quickly reverted to her normal form so she could try and wipe the blood away. She'd change back afterwards.
She felt hatred and malice stirring within her but it was different from before. It felt like this more than belonged to her and its object was Mr. Waynguard. A hypocrite. A hypocrite who didn't believe in the purity of knowledge and would have her killed for her radical ideas. And he would believe himself better than her. He'd shut down her questions and just insist that he was always correct. His way was the right way.

She was rationalising. She was attempting to fight back and rationalise with the situation, with the darkness within her, that was to be expected and David wasn't too alarmed at it. He would need to foster that darkness, grow it like a plant, and then when the time was right he would immerse her fully into darkness and let her taste true power. But for now he would need to be patient as he simply nodded, "Perhaps he was lost, like I said we don't know the full story, now let us continue with our original quest which are the items. I believe that they are nearby, if you are well then try to keep up with me unless you wish to be assaulted again by the forces surrounding this place," he said before turning and beginning to go towards the items.

No matter how much she dabbed at her eyes the blood just kept coming. She'd just have to believe it would stop on its own. It probably was because of the vision or all the voices in her head. There was nothing more could do about it. She dialed the number and said the chant and returned to being MagiBlue.
No, they didn't know the full story and she was the one who had said that.
If she was well? She had never felt worse but she had to get the book before the other mage so she simply followed behind her teacher.
There was a whispering from Merlin in her head. 'You know how to get there. And you know what to do. You should just sacrifice him. You won't need his help once you have the book. He's just going to manipulate you, use you as a tool and discard you once you've fulfilled your purpose.'
What the hell?! She definitely needed to try some of Morgana's magic again later. This could be a really big problem.
She was about to call out to her teacher and ask if it was possible for echoes of the dead to possess people or control them when the voice spoke again.
'Do you want him to think you mad? Or maybe you want him to taint you further? Do you not think it strange that you felt sick the moment he touched you?'
'You're the taint! You're the one who pried your way into my head! I shouldn't believe anything you tell me!' Erika thought back.
'You're a seer. You're special. You're deserving of my book.'
'Mr. McKinnon warned me about people who would use me for my premonitions.'
'People like him.'
'He's helping me.'
'He's helping himself. You should take a leaf from his book in that respect. Kill him and take the articles yourself. You won't need him and he won't be able to play with your head.'
'Like you?'
'He's the threat. I don't have a body.'
'You're in my head!' This was all terribly dizzying and confusing. Erika only wished she had a better understanding of magic to try and figure out what was going on. And should she ask her teacher if the dead could possess? What if he wanted her body since she was a seer and had visions? But...Was her teacher trying to taint her like the voice said? What was she even thinking?! It was a voice in her head?! This whole situation was driving her nuts.

David looked at Erika now and again noticing that she looked strange, never mind the eyes that bled, but also she seemed...distracted. As though there was something that was annoying her, he wondered if there was something wrong with Erika...it couldn't have been his dark energy because that usually only allows the affected person to be loyal to the caster. Was there something else then? He kept his hand on his sword in case Erika tried to attack him or something like that...if that happened perhaps he would just pour more energy into her to let him have some semblance of control, "Is everything alright Miss Danielles?" he asked.

'Tell him your head hurts' Merlin instructed. Well that would certainly be the easiest thing to say. It would make sense. But then again she didn't particularly like the idea of blindly following what a voice in her head told her to do.
Maybe she should just directly ask him if he tainted her, see what he said.
'Don't be an idiot. That will just make him suspicious.'
"I'm confused," she finally admitted. She did not want to blindly listen to the voice in her head but she did have to admit that it was odd that she had felt so sick when her teacher had touched her. And as much as she loathed Mr. Waynguard's simplicity he had warned her about him.

"You are confused? About what?" David asked as he continued onwards before he reached the a barrier before breaking that down. He was close to the items, he could feel it, he still had not known how to break the blood barrier but he would think on that when they arrived there.

Erika still wasn't sure if she should directly ask him if he did something to her. What if he was really good at lying and then he did just become suspicious like Merlin said? Not like she wanted to listen to that voice in her head either. She definitely didn't want to kill Mr. McKinnon. He understood that knowledge was pure and he was a good teacher. He'd been helping her.
'He doesn't care about you. You're a tool. Accept it.'
"Those voices in my head...You...You didn't experience anything like that, right? Why...Why did they flow into my head like that? And what if I'm not able to get rid of Merlin's voice? I'm not sure what I should do."
That was true enough. It would at least give her more time to ponder the matter.

David stopped. Voices? That was certainly not part of the package, he turned towards her as he wondered if his dark energy caused her to have voices in her head, "You hear voices?" he asked again before thinking about it, "I will not lie and say I heard the voices, but I was mentally shielded from such things since dark magic and voices are linked together. You had not learned how to shield your mind from those voices...they probably flowed into your head because of your strong magic and you say you hear Merlin's voice? Most people would be estatic at that, but I hardly think that he is telling you positive things am I correct?" he guessed.

"I told you before that voices flowed into my mind. The vision I had of Morgana and Merlin helped restore my sense of self. I really couldn't remember who I was with all of the screaming malice. The spell I learned from Morgana got rid of almost all the voices. But not Merlin's. But I guess that's to be expected. I'm a novice and I was exhausted. But all the other mages and the people who were sacrificed...I think they were...cleansed I suppose is the word."
Erika looked at her teacher like he was the one who heard voices. "People want other people inside their head?!" she asked, stunned, avoiding answering his final question for the moment. Just how honest should she be?
