David wearily continued to listen to Erika as she continued to tell him that she was fine, that she was strong, it did not matter a jot to him whether or not she was strong or not. It did not matter to him that she had killed before, all it mattered was her eventual attitude towards magic, if he was able to convince her that magic was neutral; which she already was anyways but a little bit more persuasion couldn’t hurt and make her become his full fledged apprentice than he would be happy. However he knew that Erika was suspicious of people, she was suspicious because of her seer powers, and that made her cautious of everything.
“Very well Miss Danielles, I understand,” David said, “you are an independent woman. Clearly you do not need as much guidance form me as I thought you needed,” trying to sound upset, “perhaps it would be better if you were taught by the great Merlin himself rather than from a magician such as I?”

'Well that certainly would be better,' Merlin thought. Erika only wished she had the ability to glare at him. But you couldn't adequately glower at something inside your own head. 'Yeah, right. It would be better for me to be trained by the dead magician who already clearly violated my mind and wants to possess me?!' 'So it would be better for you to be trained by someone who fed you dark energy and simply wants to manipulate you for their own ends?'
'Like you?' 'At least I regard you as useful and important. You're a seer. You can touch powers he couldn't begin to contemplate. At the moment neither do you.' 'Flattery is not going to work!' 'I was a seer. I'd rather have a seer to work with.' 'And that's not viewing me as a tool, how?'
Trying not to get terribly distracted, Erika focused on the matter at hand. "You know that's not true! I'm a complete novice! I need guidance and I didn't ask for this voice in my head! I want to get rid of it! I'm just saying that it was wrong for you to break our agreement like that and try to cast a spell to control me in some way!" she snapped.
She felt slightly bad for snapping. But even with the dark seed supposedly being expelled she was upset. She was high strung after everything that had happened. She was getting really irritated with the voice in her and she couldn't believe that her teacher was trying to make this her fault. Erika rarely voiced her true thoughts and emotions but when she did it they usually flooded forth in a wave violence and negativity. The emotions were typically brutal after being bottled up for so long. Couple that with little sleep and...
"Look, I'm grateful for your instruction! You're a brilliant teacher with a wealth of knowledge at your finger tips but tell me...What gives you the right to try and tamper with my head like that?!" she fumed.
"I'm more upset that you're trying to defend what you did! You swore to me that you wouldn't cast any spells on me without permission! You said I should be careful and that this was a good precaution. And now you're trying to make it sound like I should feel bad for accusing you of breaking our agreement! But you did! You did break our agreement and I have a right to be angry!"
She was stunned at herself. She rarely expressed anger and when she did she almost never said it was deserved. But in this case, she really felt that it was.
"I'm not saying that I don't want help or instruction! I want you to teach me! I just don't want you to try and control my emotions! How I should feel is not for you to determine!" she seethed.
'There now. That wasn't so hard, was it? He deserved it. You know he did. Don't you feel better?'
No, honestly she felt worse. She hated losing it like this. But as someone who repressed her feelings a lot...The occasional boil over was inevitable.
'You don't need to let it get to this point. You need to be more firm and demanding. Show a backbone. Don't let everyone walk all over you. They treat you like a servant or a tool. But you're privy to an ability better than what any of them have. You have premonitions. The mysteries of the past and future are available to you alone.'

Well at least she admits that she needs a proper teacher, someone like himself, that she was a novice and didn’t know anything. However it seemed she was still upset about his attempt to feed her dark energy and that was fine by him, he expected her to be upset though he didn’t expect her to actually recognise that he was trying to do something to her. That had to be Merlin’s doing, only he would have recognised that he was trying to do something to her…he would have to research on ways to figure out how to get rid of him so that he would not be a nuisance to him. “Very well…very well I apologise for breaking the agreement, now if there is nothing else that needs to be discussed I will excuse myself. It has been a very long day.”

'That sounded so sincere,' Merlin thought sarcastically. For once Erika had to agree with him. She was still horribly upset but it was clear that her teacher didn't think he'd done anything wrong. She'd just have to be much more careful around him. She had been suspicious before but this confirmed it. She couldn't trust him.
"I apologize for bothering you," she responded, still livid. "I will return to my studies and you can return to your sleep." She was definitely to worked up too even attempt sleep yet.

David sighed as he simply turned and closed the door knowing that he was too tired to further argue and defend himself. It would be best to just let things be until tomorrow, he flopped himself onto the bed and began to sleep.

Erika furiously returned to the library and picked up another book. She tried to immerse herself in her studies; but, she was having trouble focusing. How could he not think that what he did was wrong?! He clearly violated their agreement! He had tried to manipulate her emotions if not outright plant some sort of weird dark energy in her.
'Calm yourself, Erika. He's not worth the frustration.' 'How could he do that?! How could he think there was nothing wrong with it?!' 'You're too naive. I told you. He views you only as a tool.' 'I guess fretting about it isn't productive,' she thought bitterly. She was still really upset though. 'Relax your mind and just try to concentrate on your studies. The man's a worm who doesn't appreciate your gifts and talents. He's using you. Likewise use him.' 'I don't want to use anyone!' 'Then kill yourself. As long as you live you'll have no choice but to use others.'
Not wanting to listen any further, Erika returned to the book and did her best to concentrate. Hopefully some of it would soak it. She'd reread the rest tomorrow as necessary.
