"I did, but I don't get it," she admitted.

"If I were able to get through to him, I should have already done it. It's been years. If he hasn't pulled himself together yet...I don't know what else I can do."

"Just keep trying," she said. She wasn't sure if that was good advice or not, but she felt like she should say something.

"Of course I keep trying. I look at him...Look at this person he's become and I feel such pity. How can I not try? But trying isn't the same thing as acknowledging success. I'm not confident I can bring him back. In fact...I doubt I ever will."

"Well, keep trying," she said, "If nothing else, it shows you haven't given up."

"Really, it's okay. At least I was able to keep Jun-kun together. His grades are good and if he does well on his S.A.T.s he can hopefully qualify for a scholarship."

Erika smiled. "Thanks. He's been working really hard for it. But...He's not going to go to a local college, like me. I wonder how Dad will handle him leaving." She could have gone anywhere; but, she had picked Pitt University. It was a good school and close enough to home that she could commute. Dad and Jun-kun had needed her. But she didn't want Jun-kun to be trapped by the same obligations. She encouraged him to apply to places he really wanted to go.

"I hope the best for him, then," Sierra said, "And for your family in dealing with it."

"I'm sure Jun-kun will be fine and hopefully him leaving will give Dad the kick he needs to get it together."

"I'd hope so," she said.
