"Oh? You have a Madogu?" he said so with disdain, "I didn't notice."

"What's wrong with having a Madogu?" Arata asked with surprise. Sure, Zeoul could be frustrating and nerve wracking at times but his partner was a good guy deep down and his insight was invaluable.

He shook his head, "Forget I said anything."
He continued on without saying another word, all the while flashbacking to a painful time in his life.

Unfortunately, Arata was never good at determining when it was best to let things go. "Really, what's wrong with Madogu? They have incredible insight. I feel a lot better knowing that I can rely on Zeoul's aid," he said seriously.
"And here I thought you ignored practically everything I said," Zeoul responded. "Only when it comes to politics," Arata said cheerfully. "I still think I can make a difference and change.." he began before Zeoul interrupted him. "Arata, not again! Sonshi won't agree! Don't antagonize someone you're on patrol with!"

Akira stopped him there, "Beware the Madogu, kid. That's all I have to say on the matter."

"He isn't just a Madogu, you know. He's my partner and he has a name. Zeoul," he insisted. Arata wouldn't be happy if he was just referred to as 'that human'. He doubted Zeoul liked being lumped in with all the other Madogu even if he wouldn't complain for fear of antagonizing Sonshi.

Akira didn't respond or even look Arata's way. He merely continued to walk forward.
No matter how much the kid got on to him, he would not talk about it. Ever.

If Arata hadn't been home schooled and spent practically his entire life in isolation he might have known that it would really be best to move onto another topic. As it was, he couldn't let the matter rest.
"Why do you think I should be wary of Zeoul? He's done nothing but look out for me."

Again, Akira did not answer. He merely looked at him and scowled before continuing his way.

"Can you at least be more specific? Exactly what am I supposed to look out for?" Not like he would be cautious anyway. Arata trusted Zeoul with his life.

Akira tried changing the subject, "Are we going to stand around blabbering all day or we going to hunt some Horrors..?"

"I'm sure a man with your experience is aware that it is possible to walk and talk at the same time," Arata pointed out. He was finally getting the idea that it might be desirable to change the subject. "It is amazing that you've been able to fight for so long. I hope that I can be in such a condition when I'm your age."

He smirked, relieved, "I don't eat any of that fast forward garbage you kids of today love, for starters, and plenty of daily exercise does wonders for your health. If you really want to get into my condition, you'll need one of my patent training regimes, but just a fair warning - they're not for the faint of heart."

Arata laughed. "I do love my fast food garbage! You mean I have to stop getting McDonald's french fries?!" he asked with mock horror.
His eyes sparkled and he looked at Sonshi with admiration. "Wait...Really?!" he asked, barely able to contain his excitement. "You'd really be willing to train me?!" he questioned breathlessly.
"I'd love to be instructed by someone as experienced as you and I'm sure I could handle it! I don't have a faint heart!" he insisted.

There was a gleam in his eye and an impish grin on his face, "Really now? Glad to hear it. I'll guarantee you won't regret it.."
He whispered the next part, "..Much."
