"Thank you so much Sonshi! No, I definitely won't regret it! This is wonderful! I haven't had a proper instructor since my father...Well I wonder how proper he was...He always did expect my brother to inherit. He never took what I did seriously."

"Hmm? You had a brother?"

Arata stiffened a bit. He and Garou had never been on very good terms. His brother had teased him mercilessly about being a 'halfbreed' as he put it. And even though Arata had been more motivated with his training and had outshone Garou on practically every occasion, it had been known that he was only the replacement. He was the backup plan in case anything happened to Garou.
"Technically a half-brother. Garou was his name. He was three years older and it was always assumed that he would inherit. But he was killed by a Horror before he could," he explained.
"So the backup plan became the only plan," he said somewhat bitterly.

"Garou?" he chuckled, "Your brother was a blind Makai Priestess?"

Arata chuckled. "My apologizes. Slip of the tongue. He was Gorou, with the characters go, five and rou, son."

Akira nodded and simply said, "Don't be so hard on yourself, boy. Backup plan or whatever, you're GAI, not him. As long as you eliminate Horrors, I don't care who you are."

"I was better than Gorou."
There was no arrogance in his words. It was a fact. It had been obvious to everyone that he was the better candidate to inherit. He almost always outshone his brother in terms of training. But none of that mattered to his father. Arata was the second son and he was born from the womb of a non-Japanese woman on top of that. His skill didn't matter. His motivation didn't matter. He was only there as a replacement.

"Then let's put that to the test then."

How was he supposed to put that to the test? His brother had died before he could ever inherit. But Arata knew the truth. He had been more motivated and more skilled.
He smiled. "I'll show you just what I'm capable of!" he promised. "I will be the best student you've ever had!" he said enthusiastically. He would master Sonshi's training program.

Akira nodded, "First thing's things, Horrors. Have you located any yet?"

"Zeoul has," Arata said proudly, continuing to hurry in the direction his partner had indicated.
Zeoul understood that Sonshi was not fond of MadÅgu so he had softly mentioned the threat so only Arata could hear. He was upset that Arata had once again brought attention to things that best be left alone. But he didn't say anything. The damage was done and him speaking wouldn't take back Arata's words; and, it wouldn't make the other knight feel anymore comfortable.

"Understood, lead the way."

Arata began sprinting, taking care that he never got too far ahead of Sonshi. Sonshi was in incredible shape for his age; but, Arata had no idea just how fast he could move.
Soon the two stumbled upon a Horror. Without hesitation Arata took out his bow and prepared to shoot.

"Nice night for a stroll, huh?" Akira asked the Horror, mockingly.
It didn't seem to be in a mood for a chat, but then neither was Akira.
He pulled out his broadsword and made the first strike.

The Horror reared back, seemingly in pain as Sonshi made contact. Meanwhile, bow read, Arata loosed a volley of arrows in quick succession. True Sonshi was right in the creature's face but Arata was very confident in his aim. He was sure he wouldn't hit Sonshi.
