Arata had been instructed by the order to come to Vol City. There supposedly was a greater activity of Horrors here than anywhere else at the moment. He had been sent here to help cleanse the problem. He was somewhat excited as he heard that the Horrors were causing such an uproar here that multiple knights had been dispatched to deal with the threat. Perhaps he would finally have the chance to socialize with other knights. Maybe he would even make a friend or two.
"What do you think the other knights will be like?" he eagerly asked his Madogu partner
"I think they'll be much more agreeable to you if you keep certain ideas to yourself," his partner replied knowingly.
"I'm not going to try and antagonize them! You're being unfair! Those rules..."
His partner cut him off. "Practice restraint and hold your tongue. Don't speak to me about antagonism. How many Order members do you think you've alienated yourself from already?" he demanded.
"But those laws..."
Again his partner interrupted him. "ARATA," he began loudly and firmly. "This threat is serious enough that multiple knights have been dispatched. You will likely need to cooperate with these other knights. Quelling the Horror threat is more important than anything, correct?"
"Yes," Arata acknowledged.
"Then please try to hold your tongue and not cause trouble."
"You know I don't mean to cause trouble!"
"You know what the end result will be. You're too clever not to foresee it."
"But some of those rules..."
"ARATA!" he said sternly. "Focus on the task at hand. Now where are you supposed to go?"
Arata slumped forward a bit. "I don't know," he mumbled.
"What do you mean you don't know?!" his partner snapped. "Weren't you given specific instructions?!"
"I may have gotten...a little lost," he admitted.
"How did you get lost?!"
"Cut me some slack! I haven't actually been here before!"
"You should have been provided with the proper instructions to get you where you need to go."
"I'll figure it out!" Arata insisted.
"You better!"

"Yet another Makai presence... Another Knight." Garou said to herself, standing on a nearby rooftop. "This signature... This must be GAI." She leapt from the roof, landing on the next and beginning to move towards the signature.

"Any luck with figuring it out yet?!" his partner seethed. Arata knew this tone. Yes, his partner was really, really angry with him.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" he apologized profusely.
"Spend less time apologizing and more time recollecting where exactly you're supposed to be!" he snapped.
"I haven't been here before! This is really different from Shizuoka, okay?! I'm at a bit of a loss!"
"How can someone so typically ingenuitive get lost like this?!"
"My skills aren't equal in all things!"
"No doubt. Your direction sense was always a problem. You compensated by mapping and constructing your glasses."
"The order wouldn't be pleased if I made a map as to where I was supposed to go."
"Just try to concentrate, Arata!"
"Fine!"

Akira was standing in the middle of the sidewalk near Arata.
His arms were folded and his eye lids shut.
Rather loud snoring could be heard coming from his nostrils.

Still having no idea of which way he was supposed to go but figuring he had nothing left to lose, Arata started walking in a random direction.
"It would be far too optimistic of me to assume you actually realized where you were supposed to go," his partner said sullenly.
"I have a foolproof technique!" he said encouragingly.
"And that would be?" his partner prompted.
"Eeny, meeny, miny, moe!" Arta said brightly. There was dead silence for a moment.
"You could have at least said you were relying on Makai Knight intuition or something!"
"A knight should try his utmost not to lie!" Arata insisted passionately.
"What about holding his tongue?! That's not a lie and it's something you definitely need to learn!"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah," he said light heartedly.
Arata's eyes widened with excitement when he saw a man nearby wearing a magical duster. "Do you see that?! Do you see that?!" he asked his partner with baited breath.
"Why don't you scream it so the whole world knows?!" he responded. Not letting his partner's mood dampen his enthusiasm, Arata sprinted towards the man who appeared to be sleeping and shook him fiercely.
"Hello there! Oh please wake up! The name's Arata! I'm so glad to meet you!" He couldn't believe it! He was finally getting to meet another Makai Knight!

Arata whipped around when someone else spoke to him. He immediately let go of the Makai Knight. "You know him?!" he asked enthusiastically. "So his name's Zen, then?! How do you know him?! What's he like?!" he asked breathlessly.
"Arata, FOCUS!" his partner scolded. "Aren't there other questions you should be asking?!" he prompted.

"He's really not as stupid as he first appears. He just gets all excited and distracted when meeting new people from the order, people he hasn't alienated," his partner stated, emphasizing the word alienated.
"Now that's not fair! I just try to point out the flaws in some traditional laws! Our order needs to modernize. Don't you think that inheritance should be based on merit rather than gender or age?" he asked the girl. "Don't you think girls should be allowed to train and become Makai Knights?"
"Arata, please! What did I just tell you?!" he demanded.
"But she might share my viewpoint!" Arata said excitedly. He would so love to find someone who actually agreed with him. She was a woman. She might think girls had a right to be trained.
"It was far too much to hope that you'd make a fresh impression in Vol City," his partner said dryly.

"I'm capable enough as a Priestess." Garou said simply. "I could most likely beat you in a fight. But trying to get the Order to budge on a tradition going back several generations would be like ramming into a theoretically immovable object."

Arata was encouraged by her words. He was used to receiving nothing but disapproval. However, she had merely stated that his attempts would likely be fruitless. She hadn't said that they were inherently wrong.
"Practicality aside, don't you think that's wrong? If you could beat me or other knights in a fight don't you think you should be allowed to inherit? Shouldn't you have the right to be trained like any other male? The Horror threat is serious! We should have whoever is most capable of dealing with these creatures become knights!" he said passionately.
"Arata, please just try and get this out of your system before the other knight wakes up. You'll likely need to cooperate with him. He looks to be a veteran and veterans are typically steeped in tradition. He won't agree. Don't cause problems," Zeoul asserted. "This is a delicate issue as you are no doubt aware despite your inability to hold your tongue when it comes to your radical ideas."

"You forget for generations before the advent of Knights, priests and priestesses fought the Horrors. I am as capable of sealing Horrors as any Knight." Garou replied.

"Isn't that in its own way sad? In the past priests and priestesses were supposedly on more or less equal footing. Today you can only be a priestess. Even if you're satisfied with being a priestess shouldn't you and other women like you have the ability to become knights if you so desire?"
