"But neither of us will have to live alone now. I think that will be kind of nice," he said with a warm smile.
But until today she hadn't been living alone. He wished she could remember. How could the priestess so callously take away Rui-chan's memories? Yes, it was the convenient thing to do but that didn't make it right.

"Thanks again, Rui-chan. It was very kind of you to share your home with me. I can cook the meals to try and repay your kindness. I can also clean a bit and help with any chores around the house. Just tell me what needs done and I'll do it."

He nodded. He felt that he should tell her to be careful but that would practically be a waste of breath. Just how careful could you be when Horrors were drawn to your blood? Still...
"Just try to be careful," he ended up saying anyway. "At least short term I'd say go out as little as possible and if you can take care of your responsibilities in the day all the better."

"Um...sure, ok," she said. She had no reason to argue with him over this. It made sense, from what she knew.

"I'm sorry. I don't mean to scare you. Just better safe than sorry." Even those minimal measures could maybe help a bit.

He knew it was pushing it but he'd try to ask. "And if you're not done working until after dark could you possibly wait until I'm done with whatever work I have? I could come get you and walk you home."

"Sure," she said, "I'll gladly wait for a knight in shining armor to come."
