"No," he said, "By the way, if you favor katanas, take a katana. I don't care."

"That's hardly fair. You haven't trained with swords like I have. I need to give myself some handicap. But I wonder if this is enough. Do you have any ideas of how I can make this match more even?"

"Take the katana," he told her, leaving it at that.

He really thought highly of himself. Did he realize she'd been practicing with the katana as a child? A smaller version but still a katana. He had another thing coming if he believed he could best her with her favored blade.
Wanting to show him just how wrong he was, she picked up her katana. "You'll regret it," she warned him.
She bowed to him as was customary before a duel. "Give me everything you have," she said with passion. He was a warrior! Even if he was full of himself he was good. This would be a wonderful training session for her!

He pointed the blade up and then out towards her. He took a breath and stood his ground for now.

Sayuri was patient and disciplined. It was often best to let your opponent make the first move. And this would give her a better chance to gauge his fighting style. She simply waited to see what he would do.

He swung the blade down and walked towards her, body completely open. He wanted to clear the distance before drawing it back up.

Originally as he walked towards her she stayed put. Then when he was almost within striking distance she leaped towards him and slashed down with her blade, aiming for his left shoulder.

He swung his saber up as he stepped back. He figured she'd have the edge there; the katana seemed to be much better for a swing, even if these were practice weapons instead of steel. As soon as he had stepped back he lifted the saber in front of himself and held it with both hands.

Kiriha successfully parried but this was just the first move. She jumped back only to leap forward again. Always keep your opponent guessing. She feigned a left strike and then moved to slash his right side.

He tilted his sword to the left, only to realize she was going right. He released his right hand from the weapon and swung his fist for the flat of her sword. He had the Arcle within him, he had strength and speed beyond an average person. It was time to put that speed to use and parry.

"You're protecting the blade with your fist?!" she said in awe, truly impressed. Swords, even practice swords were practically sacred to Sayuri. She respected anyone who treated them with care. Maybe he was just trying to shield himself but he was still blocking with flesh instead of a sword.
He was strong and fast. He managed to push Sayuri back. But she was patient. She didn't need to make contact right away. Again she leaped back. This time she didn't jump forward though. She waited to see what he would do. Ideally she could take advantage of his movements and use them against him.

He jumped back, intending on making some room. He wanted to react to her, and then press his attack when he had an opening. He wasn't sure what she was going to do, so best to just wait for now.

So he was waiting too. Sayuri was willing to bet anything that she was more patient. She held her position.

She wasn't going to move. He again put his sword to the side and walked towards her.
