Power Ranger jumped the shark after Saban bought it back, sadly. The tone is way too kiddy, and in hindsight I actually have to compliment Bruce Kalish.

As terrible as Bruce Kalish was about the overuse of explosions and as bad as his pacing was, he knew how to write a show that didn't talk down to kids like Samurai. Saban has been out of the game far too long, and is trying to mine nostalgia by turning it into a new MMPR. And MMPR wasn't that great...
While it wasn't BAD I have never looked at Mighty Morphin as a strong set of seasons. It had its high points - White Light, Green With Evil - but Power Rangers it was a bit TOO goofy in those days. I like to compare MMPR to Batman 1960 or Digimon Adventure - silly, but watchable. Likewise, In Space is the equivalent to Michael Keaton's Batman and Digimon Tamers, which was where all three franchises hit their stride.
Unfortunately, each franchise had their bad points; the Kalish Era and New Saban Eras, Batman And Robin, and Digimon Savers/Data Squad. The latter two franchises have recovered, and so will Power Ranger eventually.

One problem with Kalish is that he said "I'm paid to translate, not tell stories", so...it might not be that much better.
